The university will probably fire him for having a violent nature.

He could tell them I could have killed the SOB if I had a violent nature, but I wanted to finish my stack of pancakes.

I doubt it. He was well within his dutys. Most university cops are state certified. That was a armed felony in progress.

I know I'm not about to get hit with a bat when I am carrying a pistol.
    Too bad one got away.

I wonder what actions he perceived by the Armed Robbers that prompted him to fire rather than allowing the robbery to happen?

While it is justified to use deadly force against an armed robber, it is often not the best tactic during the course of the robbery. Just because it was a LEO, isn't a good enough answer in my mind. I am wondering what cues he recognized or what he perceived that prompted him to turn a potentialy lethal encounter into a lethal encounter.

Now before anyone gets their panties in a wad, I'm not saying he shouldn't have shot, nor am I saying he should've. I just have more questions, and would like answers.

"....One pointed a gun at an employee and one with a baseball bat approached Duff's table....."

I think this would have been a good enough reason for me to fire at him. In my mind, there's only one thing that's going to come of a BG with a bat, approaching me and mine during the course of a robbery. And it's not going to be good.

When I made the statement, I was thinking more of the political views of institutions of higher education rather than certification or legal standing of the officer's action.

In the story linked, they don't give the name of the one shot, but do for his partner.

The suspects were caught when the wounded man sought treatment at a West Memphis hospital. That suspect's name hasn't been released. The other suspect, 26-year-old Alvin Walker, was arraigned Tuesday on robbery charges. His bond is $500,000.

I didn't read the link, but I would be upset too if a couple of criminals interrupted my eating. This type of thing can cause indigestion.
