Illinois Rant
Hi All,
As you can see from the title, I had to go to Illinois for thanksgiving. I was already not happy about having to do so, due to their already ridiculous gun laws and not allowing CC... But nevertheless a relative (he is an Illinois resident with a FOID card) and I decided to go out to a gunshop and look around. All was going as well as can be expected until he (a resident of IL with FOID card) asked to look at a rifle in the cabinet... The man at the gunshop MADE him provide his FOID card before handing him the gun! Me, being from a gun friendly state and being pro-carry jumped out of my skin!! I could not believe that he had to produce a FOID card, which is crap anyway, just to LOOK, let me repeat that, just to LOOK at a gun!!! Illinois basically just violates the 2nd amendment. Anyway, thanks for listening, I thought that this was so ridiculous I wanted to share and see what people have to say about it.
Thanks!

Sounds like the clerk didn't want to spend time on someone would not be able to purchase a gun.

Yeah, I have 2 sets of relatives in IL---one right in the center of Chicago---that I occasionally must visit. Plus it's hard to get to relatives in Michigan without traversing the Daley State.

That's the law in IL....
They can't even let you handle a gun unless you have FOID.
Well, My friend from Wisconsin was able to buy a couple shotguns..... but that is because the law only applies to IL residents.
However I don't think they would have sold him ammo.

When I worked at an gun shop in Missouri we absolutely would not deal with an Illinois resident even though it was legal to sell them a long gun, because by federal law you have to abide by the laws of both states. Ill is such a screwed up mess it wasn't worth the risk.

If I had relatives in IL, I'd never see them. I will drive extra miles to avoid that state.

It's the same in New Jersey. No, card, no touch. You can't buy ammo here without one. You even need a pistol permit to buy a bb gun. Don't even get me started on the one handgun a month law.

That's my take as well...... Any state that refuses to acknowledge it's residents their 2nd amendment rights wont see my butt or the dollars that travel with it.

No one is forced to live in any state. If folks in IL feel their 2A rights are being violated, they have two choices: 1. Vote out the politcos running the state; 2. leave the state. Until then, they're stuck with what they voted for.

New York is pretty much the same. You can not even handle a gun if you do not have a permit. Last time I went back home, NY, I visited a gun store and with my SC permit was able to handle and actually buy a handgun which of course had to be sent to my FFL here in SC. It made residents in the store unhappy to see the ease of which I was able to purchase. BTW . . . A great condition S&W model 66 for $295.
