    CCW Application Mailed!

    Well,

I can say that I have finally turned 21 and sent in my application for a Non-Resident CHL in Virginia. My birthday was 6/29 and I sent the package in on 6/27, figuring it would be 2 days via USPS before it would be delivered. Can you tell I was anxious?

I have had the package in my posession since 2/06, slowly getting everything together.

I received yesterday (7/8) a receipt in the mail for my Money Order payment, which was dated 7/5.

So my question is, should I base my 45 day wait from 6/30 (when they should have had the package) or from this documented receipt dated 7/5?

Thanks in advance, and clearly I am more than excited about receiving my permit....

EDIT** The reason I applied for a Non-Resident permit is that I only live and go to school in VA from September-June, and am still legally a NJ resident**

Here in SC, my CCW clock seemed to start counting down, after my check cleared. I wish mine only took 45 days, here they take 90 days and believe me they take all 90 days. Anyway I'd start doing the countdown from the day the money order cleared and congrats, let us know when ya get it.

Based upon your advice, 8/19/2006 will be the 45th day..

I can only hope it comes a bit sooner than that.

Wow, thats a good long time...

By most accounts, Va is pretty efficient with permit granting...hopefully it goes the same for Non-Resident Permits.

What, if any, recourse did you take to receive your permit after the 90 days had passed?

well, I had to re-do the fingerprinting, as many do who use the old fashioned way, non electronic, and plus I was born in Japan (as an Air Force brat) thus I think the extra time to "verify" me and do the background check. ls well tho now as I do have it and will be sure to renew when the time comes!

I had my prints done twice just to be sure. My first set looked too dark and kind of illegible (even the officer taking them said, "Oh, new ink pad..thats alot of ink")

The second set looked better to me. Afterall, I had a 5 month wait before I could submit my package, and wanted everything to be perfect.

    Wow guys.
Here is NC my wife and I had our permits 2 weeks after submitting the packet and taking our prints.
I canít even imagine a 90 or 120 day wait.
Patience is NOT one of my strong points.

I've heard the same thing from others in NC, quick turn around time. In SC our CCW course is alot cheaper than NC, although I would've paid more to not have to wait 3 months for my permit.

Its been 16 days since the "official receipt" of my application...Im already getting super-anxious, and I am still facing the possibilty of 29 more days of waiting.

I havent been really checking the mail yet...but I do browse it with my fingers crossed hoping for a minor miracle.

The funny thing is that I wont be using the permit until Late August when I return to school, but its just something I have been determined about for awhile now...that permit cant arrive soon enough...

    IT ARRIVED!!!!!

So 17 days after they deposited my Money order, and 24 days after receiving my application, my permit has arrived!

The permit itself says it was issued on 7/14...talk about a quick turn-around.
