If I may interject ( as a former NYer )

NY state Law is such that a NY Handgun license is valid STATEWIDE , except for NYC.

It also allows you to conceal carry your weapon UNLESS the local judge issuing the license PUTS RESTRICTIONS ON IT

GETTING AND KEEPING A HANDGUN LICENSE IN ORANGE COUNTY NY by Orange County NY Shooters

If you carry under a RESTRICTED license (and are caught )your license can be revoked - BUT there is no criminal penalty.

As I wrote if you belong to a private range that you have 24 hour access to you can be heading alomost anywhere and then swing past the range on way home. It does not say anything about going straight to there or going straight home. Nothing is off limits. Ok to carry in a post office, bars, school. So it not so so bad.

What happens if - oops - you accidentally cross the border between Nassau and Suffolk counties while you're carrying "to the range?" I'm assuming not every road and sidewalk has the border clearly marked?

    Crazy.
No problems Nassau accepts Suffolks. Suffolks accepts Nassau.

If you dont mind the 6 month wait it is not really a big deal.

Get caught at 12pm and no where near your range your gonna lose that permit. Federal places are all off limits. Suffolk allows stops for meals and such coming home from the range. Nassau I am not sure of. Alot of people have tried that 24 hr range trick and get caught in the local store shopping what do you tell the cop then?

First thing at 12:00 at night I should be tucked into my bed catching some zzzzz. Nothing good happens after 1:00 am. It is all bad after 3:00.

There is nothing in the Nassau County handbook about going straight home and straight there. Nothing about Federal buildings. Of course I am Not carrying to the court house. Post office, schools, places that serve alcohol are all ok.

Even if you were going to carry and did get stopped it is not agaist the law, It is a violation agaist your license and could lose your ability to carry.

On a side note. I have flown out of JFK 8 times. Presenting my Nassau county License and Congressman Young letter. Out of all the times I have flown. Only 1 Port Authority officer gave me a hard time. There are post here. He called Nassau County Pistol licensing while I waited he thought I was doing something wrong but since he was not sure he allowed me to fly. When I returned home a few days later I got a phone call from HQ. Long story short. I explained to the Pistol Licensing officer that I was correct in what I did. It took a day for him to reseach that I was correct. Case closed.

Glad to see you will both be at a range soon. My wife has her's for almost 2 years now.

We co-own our pistols. Can you down in Nassau?

    Hi Hitch.

Since my wife got her's I got rid of a pistol or two and now she can handle anything we own. I had to add a Walther P99 Compact 9mm to the list (her favorite). Nice to know your wife now has some added security in this nutty world.
