Mrs. HKinNY just submitted her papers at my request for Nassau County Pistol Permit. Should take 6 months. Hopefully less.
Now getting her to carry next BIG step.

I am going to see if It can be pushed up a little. Mrs is not crazy about guns at all. It took alot to get her to submit the papers.
Submitting the papers is a very big step is she is not crazy about guns. Very well done![]()

I firmly believe that the decision to carry should be hers and hers alone. That being said, you two took a step in the right direction! Always better to have the option to legally carry if one desires.

Good for her.
My spouse is originally from Illinois, the land of absolutely no Concealed Carry, etc.
When she came to WV and I got my permit, she wanted to learn about firearms and get hers. Be proud of her for any reason why she wants hers.

at the very least it is good she knows how to use it if needed. My wife picked her permit up last week. now i have to teach her how to shoot.
Mrs got the post card in the mail that says come on down and pick up license. Now I have to get her down there. Baby steps
I have a friend in Suffolk county who was interested in getting a permit, but had 2 issues -
- What do you put down as justification for concealed carry
- Somebody told him he can forget it anyway, ain't gonna happen. I know there are other counties in NY, like Westchester, where "you can forget it" too. I think he lost his will to apply at that point.

Nassau and Suffolk are not a problem. I knows plenty of people who have them.
I can only speak first hand for Nassau but it goes like this.
Fill out the paperwork and drop it off they will schedule you to come down to be electronically printed and they will give you 4 letters that must be filled out by your references and mailed back to Police HQ. It takes 6 months almost to the day but easily obtainable, You will get a post card telling you to come down at pick up license. It will be stamped "Target and Range only"
The benefits of Nassau are they allow you to carry loaded to and from the range, to and from gun store, to and from police headquarters. It says nothing about going straight there or straight home.
There are several private ranges, that as members you have access to the range 24 hours a day.
One difference that I know of between Nassau and Suffolk is. In Nassau the PD allows you to buy a purchase order for $10.00 that is valid thru DEC 31 St of that year. You can buy as many Purchase orders as you wish. Walk into a gun store with purchase order and walk out carrying the firearm. You have 10 calendar to get back to HQ were they will add it to your License.
In Suffolk you go to the gun store and buy a firearm takes the receipt back to Suffolk HQ where they will add it to your license then go back to gun store and pick up firearm.
If you apply for a business license they look for cash deposits or a need. You sell jewelry, drugs,High value items. You will get it not problems HQ would like you to carry during normal business hours. Whatever your normal business hours may be.
It is not hard at all just takes the 6 months.
Wow. Lotta red tape.
What happens if - oops - you accidentally cross the border between Nassau and Suffolk counties while you're carrying "to the range?"I'm assuming not every road and sidewalk has the border clearly marked?
Crazy.

After you wait a long six months you will receive a nice RESTRICTED permit. Crime in Nassau and Suffolk is increasing ya think they would loosen up the concealment laws just a tad.
One more step and it's on!
