A New Angle on Carry at Work

So I can't carry at work, but I was able to get approval to keep it locked in my car. I had late meetings at work this evening and didn't get to leave unil 10:45. I was walking through the parking lot and a black bear about 400lbs came across the road and into the woods about 100 feet from me. A lot of good my .357 Magnum was doing me locked in the safe in my truck about 25 feet from me... but I did have a to-go container full of ham in my hand I was taking home from work. Nothing like walking through the parking lot at night with a box full of BAIT in your hand. Luckily, he kept on going and I got the heck in my truck and split.

Glad you made it outta that one! I wonder if a order of ham to-go (thrown across the road) would have appeased him.

On a scale of 1-10 that rates a pucker factor of at least 15, glad you made it home safely.

I was thinking the same thing. Employ the toss and run tactic!

Just handle it like this guy! "Hey bear, what are you doing?"

If you had any doubts about if a black bear can climb a ladder, that should answer them.

That bear would have found the aroma of ham much more palatable than the other odor I would be trailing.

That must have been it. First I said it, then I did it. If he had made the slightest movement towards me I woud have tossed the box. That's the 3rd one that's been seen right there around the building in the last couple years that I'm aware. It's not at all unusual to see deer right there around the building, but this was the first bear that I've personally seen right there in town. Of all of the reasons to carry at work, this was one that I hadn't thought about. I bring food home from the cafeteria at work quite a bit in the evenings...I'll be looking around ready for the "toss and run" maneuver. I did see a bear about a mile down the road from work at the golf course and my buddy has seen several within a mile from my house when setting up his tree stands and got a couple on his trail cam.

Worked for a girl and her mom near where I live here in Ohio. Their neighbor a couple houses away raised bears. One day a couple years ago, as the teenage girl let her dog out for a potty break, a large Black Bear, which had escaped its enclosure, barged in her house and began to attack the girl's mother in the kitchen of the home. The girl lured the bear away with a package of bologna from the fridge, and her and the mother escaped thru a window. The mother was tore up pretty bad, but survived, thanks to the quick thinking daughter.

You folks from other parts of the county obviously don't understand that you do NOT try to take ham away from a VA or NC country boy. Take their ham (and God forbid the biscuits) and "It's ON cuz!"

I'm guessing the bear knew that too.

Do you think the bear cares about your company's policies?

    Do the bad guys?

I have lots of customers and co-workers who would not care to know that I carry. So, I use the Smartcarry...I remain able to defend myself, and they remain dumb and happy. Works for everyone!

Glad it worked out ok...this time. But remember, where there is Yogi, Boo-boo is not too far behind...

We'unz here in Tn would probably take on a bear (as long as he's not over 400 pounds ) before we would give up our ham. Some things are just more important than a bear.
