Every time I shoot and a few times a month to clean the dust and such from carry off.

+1, Plus I find cleaning my guns really relaxing!Originally Posted by rocky
Daily inspection re lint etc - and when needed compressed air blast for that.
Cleaning will follow a substantial shoot but - usually prefer after cleaning to run some rounds thru and then gun is carry-ready - just a means of ''proving'' it.
I am not after a pristine and perfect carry piece - but I do want to know it is dead on reliable, thus the preference to shoot a few after a clean. Between times I will also do a quick field strip and check slide lube - plus probably a mag rotation.
I tend to ditch ''top rounds'' periodically if they have been chambered a few times - possibly even get calipers and check OAL - those rounds get put aside and eventually shot up.
I am no longer a clean-gun fetishist - emphasis is always on function and a lightly ''soiled'' gun does not bother me any. Add to that even my ST after 18 months of daily carry shows holster wear in places - no prob', it goes with the territory.

I clean and lube any weapon after I first purchase it and after each range trip....it's a military thing.
I also check any gun I haven't fired in a while to see if it needs re-lubing, but with Militech (which sticks to where ever you lube), I rarely have to re-lube any gun.

Same here srfl, in addition I'll clean the bores twice a month.
It comes a time in your life when you run across someone you should have never @#$$% with. Allow me to introduce myself!
I clean it every time I shoot it. Since I love fondling the doggoned thing, as I do all my firearms, I take it apart and clean it about once a week, just for fun!
P95 -- same here on the top rounds deal. I've become a nut on that after noting a round that suddenly got a whole lot shorter after chambering a couple times. I quit carrying that brand and after any chambering, the top round goes to the practice box.Originally Posted by P95Carry
It gets really humid here (I should have bought the Milt Sparks holster with the sweat lining, but so far the EX is not doing bad). I've checked my Colt and found it covered in sweat, so that's a daily or more wipe down. Still looks pretty good to me. Wear marks are "experience."
My XD gets cleaned every 200 rounds plus whenever I fall in the lake.
Cleaned before carry if comeing out of storeage , cleaned after any shooting , cleaned once a week while carryed if not shot . Inspected daily visualy before carry tho not function checked .

Cleaned after trip to range which is at least twice a month.
I wipe it down weekly and pdq after shooting it. I also change magazines every two weeks. I carry one magazine in the gun and a spare. Cheap insurance. When I shoot it, I draw from the holster, just as its carried and shoot it. That way I know whether it will work or not. This method has not failed me in almost 36 years.
