    Iowa carry

Just wanted to post a little celebration to finally be able to legally carry in my neighbor state in Iowa. I'm going over the river for breakfast and going armed!

    Way to go Iowa!

Suck that until Monday I still have a half neutered permit. I think the non-residents got it too good, you don't even have to deal with Iowa bureaucracy. Some of the sheriffs are going to make this harder than it has to be, some will be just fine. I'm wondering what side of the line my sheriff will be on as he has never been a fan of carrying period. He himself doesn't even carry on duty a majority of the time...

Well add one more state to my list of places I can carry. I have a daughter I can finally visit while armed now.

Same here. Now I am willing to cross the border and maybe visit Des Moines, which is only a 4 hour drive from Mpls. Now, if WI and IL could do the same...

"shall issue" and "reciprocal" .... big issues that Iowa legislature seems to have caught on to this year. Congrats. ! ! !

Our Legislature was smart enough to put in a "time frame" for Sheriffs, and the AG's office in issuing them so no-one could sit on them , or drag their feet.

The bad Sheriff's will get the idea, about the time the AG or an individual takes them to court.

There's no provision for reciprocity in the new law, IA is recognizing all other state's permits, but there's nothing there regarding other state's recognizing the IA permit. In other words, it's up to the other states to decide if they want to recognize the permit. No "employee" of the state is going to be making any calls to other AGs etc regarding the issue. The new legislation also includes a time line thank goodness.

What they (anti carry Sheriffs) are all ready starting to do is scrutinize training documents to verify their authenticity etc. Some depts want the NRA Instructors to come in and have their credentials verified etc. That's BS even for the local guys, but what about instructors that are from out of state, or even on the other end of the state? It's going to be an interesting time that's for sure.

Good to hear, at least its a step in the right direction. I'm there a few times a year, I'll have to pay attention to see if anyone is taking advantage of their new law later this month.

Probably will be, IIRC DBQ was one of the areas notorious for not issuing permits under the may issue system.

Having grown up in Iowa and went to college in Iowa... I get back to visit friends from time to time. I like in Kansas City (Kansas side if the line)... and this is great news about Iowa's new CCW law.

As pointed out earlier, the Iowa law makes it easier for an out of state person to carry in Iowa rather than the reverse (due to Iowa not writing in any reseprosity verbaige in their statute). Iowa will recognize my Kansas CCW... but Kansas will not recognize Iowa's... since Kansas requires a written afidavit from the state that would like resiprosity with Kansas... and from reading Iowa's new statute... there is no provision for those in control in Iowa to do such... since the statute does not require it or spell it out (for or against).

As a Kansas resident... I am thrilled. Ijust hope that Iowa residents can get their state legislatures to now amend the current/new law and make it easier for Iowa residents to carry in other states.

Road trip is being planned now that I can carry......

Maybe I'm missing something, but how can IA prevent other states from recognizing its license. I don't think it can, anymore than it can't compel any other state to recognize its license.

It is good that IA will recognize all other licenses; and what the other states choose to do with the IA license is purely up to them. E.g., MO would recognize it because it recognizes any license. I assume that is how it will work.

An other example of where what one state does has no effect on another, TX will recognize the WA license but WA not the TX license. I'd expect other states to start explicitly recognizing the IA license because IA will recognize theirs.

Anyone know if MN will recognize the IA license? Nebraska?
