Ugh. The lack of detail in reporting is aggravating. I doubt that the gun went off by itself when it hit the floor. More likely, the gun owner grabbed for it as it was falling and found the trigger. Quite likely, there was no holster to begin with. Granted, I'm left to speculate here, however stories like this will lead yet more people to believe that guns are ticking time bombs, waiting to go off.

I suppose the bottom line is that there is most often negative news on gun ownership. The positive stories often get buried, ignored or not published at all. We see the good headlines posted here, but don't think that the anti's pay those any attention.

When you treat your EDC the same as your cell phone or your wallet, bad things happen. Use a proper holster with enough retention, and don't play with it.

I wonder what model gun it was to have fired when it hit the deck. I also wonder if the person tried to catch it and hit the trigger.

Bad news all around. I hope the person injured recovers soon.

He might not face charges, but you can bet he'll face a Civil Law Suit.

Yeah, I think so also. I'm really surprised they said he/she won't face charges.

As well he should. You would think there's some kind of negligence law, etc that would cover this.

Irresponsible CHL Holders Really Make Me Angry..... (Woman Shot in Kingwood, Tx)

Woman was shot accidentally in my hometown lastnight by a guy carrying a derringer. It apparently fell out, hitting the floor and discharging, hitting an elderly woman in the hip. Thank God she was ok, what do you guys think, should he lose his license to carry? I think so.....

No argument from me. A criminal prosecution would be nice, and a very large civil settlement too. I wonder how he feels now about all that money he saved on his carry piece.

He definately is open to the civil suit. If the prosecutor wanted to he could find some charge like discharge inside city limits to file against the doofus with the slippery pocket pistol, but it might not be worth the time and effort for the sentence.

The guy will likely pay a higher price to the elderly woman with the sore buttocks.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

The weapon owner will likely not face charges.
Maybe not, but you can bet your sweet bippy that he's gonna pay through the nose in a whopping civil suit.

Article sucked, no details. But then again, you can't expect an anti-gun media to write their articles full of explicit detail for our benefit.
