    Fishing Gun

Just wondering what folks here carry when fishing and what method of carry you use. I have been carrying my P3AT in a pocket holster in my vest inside a ziplock bag. I spend most of my time on the river in a pair of waders -sometimes in a canoe- and a flyrod in my hands, so anything I carry needs to fit in a fly vest so it is accessable and not terribly heavy. I'm also mostly concerned about 2-legged threats (only black bears in my neighborhood). However, I wouldn't mind carrying something capable of more...like maybe a S&W 340PD or such. What do you use? What can you suggest? I've been fishing a long time, but packing for less than a year. Any nuggets of wisdom from those that have "been there-done that"?

Well out here we fish with dynamite not our ccw piece . LOL . Howeaver My carry gun (Kahr ) is stainless and polimer ( the p3at imho is a rust magnet ) so that is one of the fiew times my p3at gets to set in the pickup and wait on me . The pm9 will tuck almost anywhere the p3at will ( except my jeans pockets lol ) and it handles the occational dunking fine .

I have a SW 351PD revolver in 22 mag. It is alloy and has a titanium cylinder, etc., so it weighs 10 oz. and holds 7 rounds. The grip includes a built in lanyard ring, so you can attach it to a cord tied to your fly fishing vest. Then if you draw it and drop it, it doesn't disappear below the water! Which is good because they cost too much money. Also, it has a nice fiber optic sight and is a matte color. As a revolver, you can put in a few rounds of snake shot, which is available in 22 mag cases. And while 22 mag is not 357, it is a step up from 22 LR, and could serve in grave need. I am also a fly fisherman and bought this thing for that purpose.

I live near Seattle where we have the Pike Place Market and the somewhat famous Fish Market. One of their "signatures" is the throwing of fish from the display tables to behind the counter where they are weighed and wrapped for the customer. A sign warns "Beware of Flying Fish".

Since the only fishing I do is at this fish market, my fishing gun would most likely be an 870 or 1100 Remington.

BTW, if you haven't been there and seen the fish tossing, here is a webcam that shows some of the fun live. It is entertaining.

I use my HK USP for kayaking and boating needs. Hooked up w/ a lanyard to tether it to my belt and no worries.

I carry my G19 in my standard kydex holster. both are tough, and can tolerate water very easily.

I use my regular carry Kimber. I fish from a boat or dock but if it did happen to get wet it just gets cleaned when I get home.

We keep a S&W 686 stainless in .357mag on the boat...bulky for your application, but one heck of a good shooting gun.
