Bad call on caring concealed last night

I have a cell phone (blackberry) that is provided by my company; they allow me to use it for business and personal life therefore I do not have my own cell.

Yesterday I was in a battle with a customer who has not kept current with invoicing and despite this wanted us to start another job etc…

Long story short = After work my wife and I went out to dinner and I left my phone at home (tired of the calls); while we were out I asked my wife is she had her phone, she did not.

I came to the realization that if I am in any trouble at all (including a shooting) I would not be able to call 911……………….. BAD CALL and I will not repeat it.

Lesson for me; when you decide to carry a pistol for self defense do not allow frustration to keep you from using your brain.

Just a thought to make you think; that may help someone else…..

How did people defend themselves before cell phones?

I use a Glock for defense; the cell is to explain my side of the story after the Glock work has been completed.

Good point, however nowadays you can't stretch your arm out without touching someone with a cell phone.

So, even if you leave your phone at home, your never far from someone with one.

I try to always be caring. ;)

Life goes on with out cell phones. There are times I wish they were not invented. When we were ten we though two styrofoam cups on a string were cool now the year olds want the latest cell phone.

I feel your pain of wanting to be free of the cell for a while. It's pretty easy to mute the ringer and have a little quiet time but still have the phone for an emergency.

Same here. I get what others are saying and the point they are making about the cell phone but I view it as one more piece of defensive equipment. I'm sure we have all heard the old saying, and it's true, that generally the person who calls in first is the considered the good guy. If I am attacked and I have to shoot some scum bag and he runs off and calls the police before I can, then he tells them I am just a nut who attacked and shot him for no reason. The cops will go with that because they figure the good guy calls in, the bad guy doesn't.

Please don't try to tell me that the evidence will show that you were in the right. That doesn't hold up a good deal of the time and we all know it. And if there's no witnesses OR the witnesses that are there are the scum bags friends, then you better have a way to contact the police before the scum bag does.

Better to forget the phone than the gun.

That is the new rule.... the point really is I let a bad day allow me to not think ahead (however I did not forget my Glock) I really do not ever want to let that happen again. The point of the phone is really I do not want to be over a dead body, or in a totally different location at my first introduction to LEO responding, I really want to be the one who makes the call and if the threat is over I do not want to move from the location of the shooting if possible.... By being frustrated last night I gave up those option a bit I think....
