I've been carrying since 95 and have had to pull it only once and the sight of it was enough to make him decide he wanted to be some place else. After all these years I find myself sometimes thinking about leaving it at home but I still carry it everyday.Anyone else leave theirs home sometimes?

In 2007 the wife and I were both in school geting our BS degrees. We have a detached garage with an office above it. I was int he office when I wife got home form school, about 9:30 pm. Instead of going into the house she came up to the office to do some homework and she asked me to get her something to drink from the house. The stairs to the office are outside and when I got to the bottom I say out of the corner of my eye what looked like a cat sitting on my trucks toolbox. I tuen to chase it away and saw that it was actualy a guy in a hoodie standing on the other side of my truck. Not sure who it scared the most him or me, he about broke his neck tripping over the trashcans trying to get out of there. Now this was about 2 minutes after my wife came home, so he had to have been out there when she did. I was armed with a pencil, glad I didn't need it. The next day the wife and I signed up to get our permits.
Now we both carry whenever it is legal, which is most of the tme for us here in TN, since we don't use the postoffice but once a month. The wife carries a S&W 38 and I carry either a FEG PA-63 or a XD-45 compact.
The wife is wanting a LCP and is looking at getting what looks like a cell phone holster for. I must say that I'm glad that the incident happened for now the wife loves to go to the range with me, which is great!

I never second guess as to whether I should carry or not. I am always armed where legal...

I honestly do not remember the last time I havn't had a weapon of some kind on me or within reach, normally its my 1911 on my hip and my XDM on duty, gonna be putting the 629 in the rotation as soon as she proves herself at the range. In fact I have always been armed somehow or another, whether it was a knife in high school, off the property of course, or a gun after, I havn't been unarmed since middle school. I cannot imagine not having a firearm or knife nearby, I kind of think thats a little sad to be honest, but it makes me feel better.

"lax" for me means having it between the seats in the truck instead of on my hip. I do spend 90% of my workday in the truck though, so it's not out of reach.

It gets old like anything else. My situation is compounded by my locale and status. I live outside of town so when I do venture in, I usually visit the military base. As such, I can’t bring along the gun in the car and there’s no place to stow it anywhere near by. It’s the perfect storm scenario for being unarmed most of the time.

I have always thought that a small business across from the main gate could do well by adding a drop-box service for cc folks that visit the base.

I don't consider not carrying "getting slack"...as my weapon is just one SD tool...and I do not want to become dependent on one tool...

Like others in this thread, I work in a federal facility and am retired military...so there's lots of times I can't carry...

I'll wager I have better S.A. than most people because I have to be able to react quicker...

I have a bad knee that sometimes requires a cane....I've started taking lessons on the use of a cane in SD...

I carry my G23 most of the time I can legally...occasionally I won't just to keep other skills sharp...

Is that slacking???

Yes sometimes I get slack and just do not carry. Can not carry at school nor in many restaurants. Got to get that changed.

About the only time I don't is when I go to school. After another resident of my apartments told me a story about an armed robbery in our complex a few month earlier, I've definitely become one of the carry at home people. Then again, I've only been carrying for a year and a half so the "new" still hasn't quite worn off. Hopefully I withstand the test of time.

Living in PA it's easy to carry every day because there are so few places one can't carry (schools, courthouses, airports) and I don't visit those. I do know quite a few folks that have licenses that don't carry and only a few that carry every day like I do.

When we all signed up to become the Sheepdogs of our society, we didn't do it for convenience...LOL

Part of our self imposed duty is to try to be ready, for anything, anytime. If you don't carry the correct tools, you cannot solve the problem.

I carry everywhere I go, anytime I can. Work, play, out, in, no matter. It's my security blanket and my reminder of the task I have chosen to take up.

I carry all the time unless legally prohibited. Even a walk around the block with my two large dogs in a nice neighborhood I go armed.

Yep!

Though I usually always have something (a knife, pepper spray, SOMETHING).. it's not always a gun. Usually it's only when going out with my husband and I'll say something along the lines of, "I'll let you protect us tonight," and only carry a knife or two and a flashlight and let him do the carrying of the gun.

Of course there are also times I'll be going somewhere where I can't carry and since I'm only going there and right back I'll leave my gun at home instead of trying to find a place to secure my gun once I get there only to have to come back home with it.. seems pointless so the gun stays home.

If I'm up, I'm armed. When sleeping it's on the night stand. I'll only lock it in the COM safe in the vehicle if I"m going into a restricted area, and in Delaware that is any Federal Building, Court House, Police Station, Jail, School, or any of our three Casino/Slots.

Aside from work, church and school; I have my weapon on 90% of the time. I am not paranoid by any means, but my thoughts are; if I am trained and licensed to carry I should keep it with me as much as I can. I am trying to reach the 100% mark, with those few exceptions above. I have only been carrying two years.

I get some slack from a few family members that found out by accident. Most of my close friends know by now and don't mind. One told me one night while we were sitting at his house having a few beers by the fire pit(I was not carrying that night because I planned on drinking and staying at his house) "I trust you with my life and my families lifes already so now you even better preparred to protect us". That statement kind of seemed odd at first but know I really appreciate his trust. Has anyone had such a positive reply from a family member or friend?

I do not get slack about carrying while I am off of my own property. While I am in my house or on my property I am usually armed or have one close by. Too many clowns doing home invasions all over this country. When I am out and about in the general public I am always armed where legal.

Hey this is a good question for me because I have found myself not carrying as often as a I was 6 months ago. I have had my carry permit for about a year now. I have a XD9 and the full size of the weapon prevents me from carrying the weapon in my pocket. I find it best to holster the weapon. I have a nice IWB holster but I have gotten lazy from putting that on when I leave the house. I do tend to grab a less expensive nylon holster and wear that OWB with my jacket covering. It is just so much easier to adjust! With all this said I have been thinking about getting a Ruger LCP that I can holster and carry in my pocket. This would be nice esp in the warm season. I am a firm beleiver in carrying all the time because I know if and when the day happens whether I am carrying or not after the incident I will tell myself never again will I NOT carry so I might as well be proactive! Thank you for bringing this up. V

I do not get flack from anyone...in fact my father in law, my wife, and one of my best friends attended the class together. My family knows that I carry, and my children know I carry....I have never been called an extremist or paranoid or anything like that....I am sure there are those that think that, but they can thank me later when I save their lives.

There is no possible way to know when you will need a firearm to defend yourself, or someone else. To go unarmed would be like deciding to let your auto insurance lapse, because (besides the law) you don't think you will be involved in a car crash. If you plan a trip to somewhere you think you may need a gun, don't go there.
