I consider myself unaffiliated politically, and yes I think things are going down the tubes. Last two presidents I've made the same mistake, I voted for them the first time. It appears Mr. Obama won't get my vote the second term either.

Funny, I was made by a colleague, while travelling in Texas. Nice guy, but a committed fan of MSNBC, and constant, persistent talk on left wing ideology; Which I just let pass without comment.
When he made me, I was bracing for what I thought would follow. Then he stated talking about his handguns, and that he had a cc permit in his state. Can’t take anyone for granted anymore!

Some interesting comments that thread their way to my thinking. At times on these forums, I read about members who are armed to the teeth literally 24/7 and sound like they live in their "fortress" with a 40,000 round supply of cartridges in Dodge City. It seems to have everything to do with what many have referred to as the "zombies" in our society. When I express my dismay and sadness at their extreme commitment to this scenario, I try to convey the fact that I am not trying to criticise but just express my sadness at their viewpoint and how it "seems" to impact their lives; replies to my comments come back in a very negative and angry manner, which only solidifies my opinions. I try to convey what I perceive to see in this thread---my reason for obtaining a firearm and learning everything I can about same (CCWP class, forum discussions, advanced classes) has more to do with the state of this country, and, to a lesser degree, the state of the world--I know "what ifs" are out there with the "zombies", but in 69 years I have never had any kind of "situation" that ever rose to anything resembling same. I see a socialist/fascist dictator wannabe and I truly believe that this federal government is EXACTLY the reason our founding fathers authored 2A. I can easily see (call me paranoid) the potential for a 1930 Germany and I will not be a sheep.
I'm surprised that we have left leaning/pro gun folks on here, I thought that was an oxymoron. It just goes to show that we shouldn't generalize.
America: Your government is not ignoring you, it's insulting you.
The Bill of Rights: Void where prohibited by law.
I have known a few pro gun Dems. I am always a little surprised to find out that someone I know to be very left leaning is also pro gun.
But I always wonder, and maybe some of you who have said you are left leaning but pro gun here can answer this for me, how can you continue to vote with the party that has as one of its main planks in its platform, huge gun control initiatives? How do you justify that with yourself? I couldn't do it.

It can't possibly be worse than I think it is.
I do not vote based on gun initiatives alone, I disagree with that mentality. Another thing I noticed, and admit my own generalization, is when I walked into my CCW class I was expecting NRA hats and Cammo t-shirts galore, but there was a person from every walk of life in there, there was even an old lady that was a real estate agent, a lawyer with a rolex watch, and even a guy with a "thug-life" t-shirt on. The media always portrays the gun wielding NRA members as thart guy who shows up to tea party rally's with an AR slung over his shoulder, which is what turns me off of guns.
Now I realize there is a lot of just plain honest folk that want the right to protect themselves and their loved ones. I feel obligated to protect that right. There are extremists at both ends of the spectrum that will always make that difficult. I just have to be careful to not let the media invade my critical thinking brain and open my eyes and do my own research.
not being particularly leftist, but i guess i'm considered a liberal by today's so-called conservatives, i can tell you that most democrats that i know don't vote on a particular wedge issue. my in-laws always claim to be independent but always vote for the pro-life candidate (even if the candidate only gives it lip-service to get the votes of folks like my in-laws). so basically they'll cast their votes for anyone that gives lip service to their wedge issue and not care that they're getting their pockets picked on just about every other issue that should matter to them.
that's what wedge issues are; they're political sleight of hand and i try not to get distracted by them. just because a candidate is ostensibly pro-gun or pro-life or pro-(wedge issue here) does not mean a damn thing. it's their overall voting record that means anything.
Reminds me of a favorite old joke. Substitue "Democrat" for "Republican" and vice-versa, as to your own leanings and it's just as funny. The real moral of the story for us all is in the punch line and echoes what others of all stripes have said here...have your eyes open, engage in critical thinking, believe none of what you read (or hear on TV/radio) and only half of what you see.
One day while the President was doing his morning jogging he noticed a little boy standing outside the White House gates. As curiosity got the best of him, he jogged over to the gates to see what the little boy was doing.
As he approached the gates he was taken by surprise when he noticed a sign saying “Democrat Dogs For Sale”.
The President asked the boy about the dogs he was trying to sell. “What’s up son?” he asked. To which the little boy replied, “I’m selling Democrat Puppies. Would you like to buy one Mr. President?’ he answered. “No, Thank you young man. I just got a new dog. But thanks anyway. And good luck,” said the President.
And he jogged away. Thinking about how cute the puppies had been, the President later told his wife about the Democrat Puppies. They both laughed about how sweet it was that the little boy was trying to sell his puppies.
The next morning the President noticed the same little boy at the gate with the same little puppies.
This day, however the sign read, “Republican Puppies For Sale”.
He inquired about the sign stating, “Young man, yesterday when I was here you had a sign stating that these were Democrat Puppies for sale. Now today you call the same puppies Republican Puppies. What’s the deal?”
To which the boy replied, “Yes sir, Mr. President, but today they all have their eyes open.”
I guess when ever I see the term "zombie invasion" I don't REALLY think "Undead corpses walking around eating flesh". I think more in terms of either;
A. Looters running through neighborhoods in response to an economic collapse, or a natural disaster.
B. Foriegn troops marching through in an invasion.
C. Our own military attempting to quell a grass roots uprising brought on by abuse of power by the government.
In all these scenarios I can see where a reasonable amount of ammunition would be beneficial. I do not however think that I'll be able to hold back the invasion myself long enough to expend 40,000 rounds of ammo, therefore I don't stock that much.
I'm no democratbut definitely not a Republican. We could all go on long winded political diatribes but typically most forum members keep it about guns not divisive politics.
But I can't stand the uninformed leftist bashing that some members indulge in. Each time they make their uninformed mean spirited remarks, they remind me why I'm not the conservative I used to be.
Yes, even us "Pinko commies" can love guns and choose to protect ourselves.

Hey Y'all: I agree with most of you and most americans when we say "repubs/dems" they are all the same--just a different animal symbol. Having said that and watched the despicable democrat majority over the last two years, where bribery was the rule of the day on healthcare and I watch a sleazy community organizer dictator wannabe with no experience and, quite frankly out of his league, and his university friends (no experience in the real world) combine with people like that b---- Nancy and that sourpuss Harry try to takeover this country, I will never look at or talk to or vote for a democrat so help me god. Have I made myself clear. Does anyone understand 1930 Germany? Do you know why I carry a firearm? Civility? Absolute baloney. This is domestic terrorism and I will not bow to it like some relatives of mine did in the 30's, thinking civility while the animals roamed free.
