    Why Grandpa carries a gun

I got this in an email and thought I would share.

    Why Grandpa carries a gun

    PEOPLE ASK WHY?

    Why Carry a Gun?

My old grandpa said to me, "Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin."

I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

    I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

    I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

    Police protection is an oxymoron.
    Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just show up and investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin' . . . . .
    author unknown (but obviously brilliant).
Vermont does not issue Permit/Licenses to Carry a Concealed firearm. Vermont allows anyone
who can legally own a firearm to carry it concealed without a permit of any kind.

The second half of this post reads like a giant blinking neon "citation needed" sign, and due to its misrepresentation of some obvious facts makes me assume it's all wrong. For example, "gun control" isn't why the Nazis were able to exterminate most of the Jewish population on an entire continent.

Yea I hear ya, it was an FWD E-mail take it with a grain of salt. I removed the second half of the post for you guys that are wondering what we are talking about, don't want people thinking it was my facts but they were clearly wrong!

Thanks, I like the part that's left. :)

I found the article where those "facts" were originally written: http://www.fff.org/freedom/fd0211f.asp
That article could be used in a logic class as an example of a "Post hoc ergo propter hoc" logical fallacy. Just because one "fact" followed the other doesn't mean one caused the other. I keep putting the word "fact" in quotes because I can't find citations for most of the dates, and the one I can (since Nazi Germany has been extensively studied) is reasonably well debunked here: http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcnazimyth.html

I'll quote the last paragraph here, as the author really knows how to write:
The simple conclusion is that there are no lessons about the efficacy of gun control to be learned from the Germany of the first half of this century. It is all too easy to forget the seductive allure that fascism presented to all the West, bogged down in economic and social morass. What must be remembered is that the Nazis were master manipulators of popular emotion and sentiment, and were disdainful of people thinking for themselves. There is the danger to which we should pay great heed. Not fanciful stories about Nazi's seizing guns.

This Grandpa carries for the same reasons..

Especially the last one. At 66 I'm way too young to die but am most assuredly too old to take an ass whoopin'

I believe the correct quote is, "Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he's to old to fight, he'll just kill you"

I like what Grampa said. I don't have grand kids yet, but may we all live to see the day.

    OR.
Don't pick a fight with an old guy, if you win there is no glory in it, if you loose it will ruin your reputation

Did they do one about why grandpa keeps in shape? Or why he carries a fire extinguisher?
