    Philips Arena Atlanta GA.

Going to a concert at the Philips Arena in a couple of weeks, what do you guys know about this place and concealed carry? Do they have metal detectors or some sort of other security measures that would keep you from carrying?
I do not want my wife and I walking from the parking garage to the venue unarmed. To me this is just asking for trouble.

Why is it that most no-gun places are surrounded by seedy parking lots in bad areas of town?

In the case of Philips, it will depend on the event. The last time that I was there was for the Circus, and even though the web site said 'no firearms', there was no security check at all when you went in.

Being the law-abiding citizien that I am, I always check the rules for the event on their web site and comply. I figure I have to assume they'll be 'wanding' people as they go in, and I don't want to have to run back to the car and leave my family alone. Also, as long as you are there during peak hours, you will be surrounded by the masses all the way to/from the parking lot. Most folks are in condition white, so as long as you're paying attention, you should be several steps ahead of everyone else. It goes back to the old joke "you don't have to outrun the bear, just your buddy". 'Hope you have a good time and be safe.

Thanks for the reply WHEC724. I can't find anything on the web site, so it may be I am not looking in the right place. Did you see any metal detectors or wanding?

Thanks foots402. I missed that on the website. I am going to carry. Better safe than sorry. Worst case I will have to return to the car and lock it up.

It doesn't. Public gathering law was repealed last year.

Which means that carring is legal in any public gathering?

You can go here: LexisNexis® Custom Solution: Georgia Code Research Tool

And take a look at this code sections:
    TITLE 16. CRIMES AND OFFENSES
CHAPTER 11. OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC ORDER AND SAFETY
ARTICLE 4. DANGEROUS INSTRUMENTALITIES AND PRACTICES
PART 3. CARRYING AND POSSESSION OF FIREARMS

INAL, but I don't see anything legally preventing you from carrying into the Philips Arena. If they ask you to leave, you must leave though or you could be charged with criminal trespass as per § 16-7-21.

Well went to the concert thursday nite at Philips Arena, glad I decided not to carry. The only way would have been deep concealment because as you enter they check you over very well. Had I been carrying with my crossbreed the clips would have given me up. They never touch yo, they look really hard around yous waist and ask to see what is in your pocket. No wands or mags to walk through yet. I am sure if they get wind that someone might try and excercise his or her 2nd amendment right by carrying deep or on ankle the extra security will drop in place.
