    * Question about CHL application

    So, I'm currently in the process of filling out the application and it says that I am to put down two character references. I called the office and they said that they can be relatives, so long as then don't live in the same house as I do.

    My mother and father divorced about a year ago, and my father's driver's license no longer has the same address as mine.

    Would using him as a reference look bad, or should I look to others? I am trying to keep the fact I'm getting a CHL very quiet considering I don't really want to broadcast to everyone that I'm going to be carrying a gun, so I'm trying to keep the people who know to a minimum.

    This is for Oregon, by the way. I'll give them a call when I can, but as of now they're not picking up the phone.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Use the parents BUT before you do, sit down and talk to them and make sure they understand why you are doing it and make extra sure they are in agreement.

    I have seen more than one case where a close blood relative has thrown the applicant to the dogs when the office calls to verify the recommendation just because they thought concealed carry was silly.

    Wow, I had to get three non family references. Two family members would be a breeze.

    Me too! I just put down one close friend, the president of the gun club, and the local gun shop owner. If you only need two references, that should be cake.
