Yeah, I realize that it's part of the law. It just seems bizarre that a non-governmental entity is delegated this sort of authority. Although, individually, the members are government officials, the association itself appears to be private and non-govermental.

Unlike the State Bar associations, medical associations, etc, those bodies are typically only given authority to self-regulate their own membership. In this instance, the Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association seems to have been delegated quasi-legislative authority over the general public.

It just strikes me as odd.

I think it might be because I believe in Nevada the County Sheriff is the Issuing Authority for the actual Permit. This gives them at least some input into the process! Thus it probably started as a political thing to try to get their support!

In PA the county sheriff does the issuing...but reciprocity is determined by the State AG office.

One annoying thing about AZ's license is MN and WA don't honor it, for no obvious reason. WA honor's FL's permit, why not AZ's? Getting a NV non-resident permit is the only practical way to carry in MN, since it's a lot closer than MN and MN requires you apply in person. Same goes for WA: get a UT non-resident permit instead.
Don't feel bad, OR does not honor ours here in WA. And they wonder why we (WA,ID,) all hate OR!

That is indeed bad, but at least OR issues nonresident permits for you guys. Oregon's silly "contiguous states" rule for nonresident permits prevents me from getting one, and their lack of reciprocity with anybody makes my permit useless there.

Speaking of WA, why doesn't it honor AZ permits like it does UT and FL? Who do we have to pay off?

That site is seriously out of date and repeated requests to the webmaster go unanswered. The only sites that are current are

The only differences I could see on the Map is that Iowa and Vermont are in the Blue with Arizona. The Handgumlaw does show a big difference and I would intend to agree with this site over the other two.
