I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating
myself for failing to be prepared.

Not meant as a flippant answer but that's why it is called stainless and not stainproof. SS will rust but usually results in just dark spots. I did recently see a SS K frame Smith that had been stored in a leather holster for 5 years according to the owner. It was deeply pitted. Guns were not designed to be stored in holsters or gunrugs. I carry in a holster and transport in a gun rug but when not in use it comes out.
