    Carry permit arrived yesterday!!!

Yippee, I am now legal to carry. My brand spankin new permit arrive in the mail yesterday. My wife's also arrived at the same time, we went to class together. It was our anniversary present to each other. It was our 11th anniversary and the gift "theme" was steel. She got a S&W 340 and I got a 442 as our primary carry, I think I will probably end up with the 340 as seh says mine shoots better. I have a cheap pocket holster and a pager pal but I have a CTAC on order. She has a Coronado Leather CCW purse. I just have to convince her to use it. We are still feeling kinda weird about it all but I guess with time it will become routine. I still have issues to work out for carrying at work but that is something I have to deal with.

As I understand it, the "Wal-Mart thing" is a ritual...it's customary to make your first carry with your new permit to be an outing Wal-Mart, where ideally you eat some nachos to seal the deal...heh.

It's a bit of a fun thing that serves the practical purpose of starting to get you used to carrying in front of the public; Wal-Mart is usually full of people, so a good place to make your maiden voyage with a concealed handgun.

My wife has a Coronado carry purse which she began with when she received her permit. It is a quality product and she has been very pleased with it. She is now working at coming up with a solution that will allow her to mostly carry "on body" rather than in the purse. The purse was a good starting point, but brings with it some tactical disadvantages that she would now like to leave behind.

Enjoy, be responsible and stay safe.

Welcome to the CCW world! Welcome to the club.

It won't take to long to get used to being armed out in public. As I recall, it took me about a week before I felt completely comfortable about carrying concealed. But after I was comfortable with it, it is second nature. I now feel naked without my gun on. My wife is the same way.

Again, welcome to the club and please keep us informed as to the progress of you and your wife begining your CCW.

Congrats fsu! I got my permit Friday. It is a little weird going out in public with a gun strapped on your hip for the first time. I did go to Wal-Mart my first time out, as per tradition. I was sitting in the Mickey D's (inside Wal-Mart) eating a Big Mac looking around and thinking...These people have no clue that I'm sitting here with a gun on my hip. Very surreal! It's a refreshing feeling knowing that you have the means necessary to protect yourself and the ones you love, if all else fails. Be safe out there and stay alert!

Excellent news - made all the better by it being both of you together. That is sweet.

Yes indeed - our bit of fun is the WalMart inaugural carry session At least it has sorta grown into that. Anywhere tho that is busy and full of people is quite a major hurdle for many because of that irresistable urge we have to temper - that feeling of having to keep checking and adjusting!

Go for it and carry plenty at home too - all helps get the feel to be one of habit and familiarity.

As I always say to new CCW's - carry with pride and great responsibility.
