Even though you have a KS permit you will need either a NC CCW or North Carolina purchase permit in order to purchase a handgun.

And there are requirements for both that you be a resident. For the PPP you have to have proof of residence in the issuing county, I'm not seeing a time requirement. For the CCP you have to have been a resident for 30 days in the county you are applying in.

So essentially to buy a handgun in NC you have to be a resident of NC.

try that link it should have the information you are looking for. I did ask at a local gun store and their response was " we will sell to out of towners but only not person to person it will have to be shipped to an ffl in their home state." I don't think he fully understood the question as he skipped answering the part about the permit for purchase.

Correct, in fact handgun sale are to residents only. On the other hand longgun sales may be made across state lines.

Hope you have friends in NC, my wife and I were robbed blind two months after we got married and moved to NC. Fortunately our new pastor was game to sign for us!

Not completely true. If you are in the military and on active duty orders in NC for more than 30 days you can take those orders along with your military ID and drivers license and get a purchase permit. I am able to buy guns here at will as long as I remain on orders at Fort Bragg.

The OP is a Marine according to his profile. As such as long as he is stationed there on PCS orders he is considered a resident.

Funny, I was born, raised, and lived in NC for 27 years and cannot buy a handgun there. Have I ever mentioned how much I love living in Virginia????
