    Concealed Carry in TN?

Actually, my question pertains to concealed carry of an expandable baton (ASP, etc) in TN. In the past I would have gone to Packing.Org, but I've about had it with them. Seems to be a LOT of issues with the site lately. Anyway, I have a relative in TN who is interested in carrying an expandable baton on his extended bike rides. Can anyone advise if they are covered under the CCW permit in TN, or if there is a completely separate law that applies to them? Any input would be appreciated.

PS - It seemed as though, not too long ago, somebody posted a new site that was an alternative to "packing". I can't seem to find it now, though. Anybody know what I'm referring to?

I believe that the ASP style batons are not covered under out CCW. You can take a training class and be certified to carry one if memory serves.

My understanding is exactly the same as dunndw's...a separate course and certification/permit is required.

I can confirm what the others have said. Carrying an expandable baton without going through the certification class is a no-no.

I asked that exact question when I went through the HCP class 9 months ago. I moved here to TN in October of 2005. The instructor (also a police officer) explained that the expandable baton and pepper spray are not covered by the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. They need their own class and certification.

Seems a bit silly to me to be honest with you. As I am trained right now, I can carry a gun but not what amounts to a telescoping stick. Seems a little odd right?

By the way, TN does not have a Concealed Carry Permit. It is called a Handgun Carry Permit. There is nothing in the law that requires you to keep it concealed and in fact, I carry openly a great deal of the time.
