Funny how reporters always say the gun "fired itself", or "discharged itself" as if they just wake up one day and grow legs, or something. I have never seen a gun walking accross the room by itself. I swear reporteres live in an alternate reality, or they are just morons or both.
This is what Darwin meant by natural selection.
From the article:
Chandler police spokesman Joe Favazzo said the man may have been under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the incident, based partly on the way he was behaving.
Well I'm not to sure how I would be acting if I had just shot my penis, but I bet it wouldn't be "normal".
This has been out of the news here in AZ for couple of months now, but as of last report the man was angry and went off half-cocked . . .
Really bad case of 'premature emasculation'.

Natural selection is wicked awesome!
His girlfriends pink gun; Her name wasn't "Bobit" was it...

Since he was carrying his GF's pink gun. He may not be a licensed carrier. Probably thought he was cool, maybe even his first time handling a gun. Some accidents are small and some are not. Hope he gets a lot of training with a firearm before he picks up a firearm. I have heard of shooting your mouth off but not your penis.

Heard his fiance said it was no big deal anyway.
Too bad somebody didn't police up what was removed and have it/them encased in clear Lucite for him to wear as a neck medallion just to show he still had all his OEM equiment - albiet in a new location. Better yet - to hang on the wall next to his mounted whitetail buck head as another "trophy" bagged by his firearms expertise.
Nice pile-on. These kinds of threads make me angry. I don't see the need to brutally ridicule someone who made a mistake...and paid for it.
I suppose that's the great thing about forums like this: we can all feel good about ourselves by getting together and ridiculing the defenseless. Is that what America has become in the electronic age? Callous and uncompassionate? When did we become so judgmental? I suppose I'm being judgmental as well.
