    First time carrying tonight...

Well, I got my license on Monday, and got my ankle holster yesterday. It is an Uncle Mike's holster and I bought it for my old Smith and Wesson Military and Police Model 12 snubbie, which is a bit big for the holster admittedly (designed more for the modern 5-shot snubs) but it seems to fit. I'm planning on going tonight to Wally World and purchasing the requisite traditional nachos for my first time carrying. I'm a bit nervous, as I've never carried before, but I'll just relax, and be careful, and try not to adjust my pant leg constantly.

    Congrats...

Leave it alone, nobody's going to notice, enjoy your nachos :)

    Allright! Congrats

Even though you will probably feel that everyone is staring, and they all know, they won't

Wally World is a great place to get comfortable with CC. I am amazed at how many people dont even look at you. They are at condition WHITE nice, safeand comfy. What could possably happen in a big shopping center.Dont forget you can always go camping in the parking lot.

I'm not a big fan of ankle holters, unless for a BUG.
I'd suggest that you look into something more accessible, like an IWB.

    Good luck.

    Help me out here...

I had a wonderful suprise a couple days ago, my 12 round mags for my P229 AND my Florida CCW came in the mail the same day! Destiny I tell ya. (oh, BTW, anyone in FL do the electronic fingerprints, I got my CCW in about 2 weeks!)

I haven't gotten a holster yet, but I'm sure I'll be ordering one over the weekend and carrying in the next week or so.

But what's this about nachos? Anyone care to give me a history lesson?

There is an old thread here somewhere...dealing with the "Rite of Passage" for new CCW holders. It involves an initial trip to Wally World, where you must partake in the nachos and shop for some Winchester White Box ammo...

    Thumbs up

Congratulations & welcome into the fold.

Ditto: that if possible you should probably investigate a mode of carry for your primary that is a bit higher up.
All things in their own good time though.

Like others above I suggest looking into a IWB holster.

Other than that, welcome to the wonderful world of CCW.

I just bought 200 rounds of 9mm at Wallyworld this evening myself, for an Action Pistol shoot on Sunday.

    Have fun.

Well, I'm back...couldn't quite partake in the ritual of eating nachos there, as since I'd been to that Walmart, they'd closed down the snack shop! Undeterred, I purchased some cheap cheese dip and tortilla chips...at least I bought nachos at Walmart (though I ate them at home).

In all seriousness, it went fine. The gun is not ideal, given its weight, and I'll probably carry more frequently when I can get my hands on a Kel-Tec PF-9. I've been advised against ankle carry before, with lots of good reasons. I guess the one pragmatic issue with IWB or other belt/waistline carry is I would have to either get new clothes, or larger pants, probably. I plan to get a Galco shoulder holster, however, for fall/winter/spring. At least it is more accessible than ankle carry. And either would be better than nothing at all...but we'll see, I may just have to be stubborn and learn the hard way.

My wife is taking the training to get her license next weekend...I doubt she will want to carry often (usually she'll be with me anyway), and I was thinking a Kel-Tec P3AT in a pocket holster in her purse would be ideal, but I think she prefers the Bersa Thunder 380, just for the looks! Which, I concede, are nicer, but oh well. Pretty heavy gun in the purse is better than ugly lightweight gun left at home! :D

I know how you feel. I've been carrying a Taurus 605 the last coule of days. It does feel funny. Even though it's small and light I still know it's there. I'm using a pocket now. I'll be trying others soon.
