Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~Paul Howe
It'll be a while before I can carry (my CCDW class is saturday) but I almost always have a knife and a flashlight on me, though the knife gets left in the Jeep when I'm at work since I work in an airport. The flashlight is a Fenix PD31 and the knife is a CRKT YeaGo. The PD31 does have several functions and brightness levels but with a twist of the end cap the only accessible functions are the solid 304 lumen light and the 304 lumen strobe- click once for solid, twice for strobe and either of those would leave someone seeing stars. If you twist the end cap back there are 3 additional brightness levels and an SOS feature.

During the work day it's a Wor-Tac Saf-T-Wrench, a self defense impact weapon that I can pass off as a tool. No weapons at work! After work or weekends, I add a Glock 26, TCP 738, and a Flash 2 knife. I really got to get another flashlight!
Question Everything!
Normally during the day I will carry a gun and utility knife. Once off work my gun and Gerber Mini Covert Tactical.

Gun and knife. Gun is for SD. Knife, no. I probably shouldn't have voted like that but I answered it literally. You were probably meaning all considered for SD.

Gun and pepper spray.
I don't carry a gun to look for or start a fight. I carry one to finish a fight I never wanted to be in.
Gun, knife and flashlight. I carry a flashlight during daylight as well. You never know when you will be inside a location where the lights go out.

It is better to have your gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it!
Still can't believe what happened on 11/06/12! Disgusted and disappointed!
Gun, spare mag, knife (chores & dogs), oc, zippo, cellphone, at night add flashlight and my "gloves".
"I do what I do." Cpl 'coach' Bowden, "Southern Comfort".
G27, G23 spare mag, Leatherman folder, Cell phone, Gladius Maximus and keys/wallet, are the minimum, when I've got cargo pockets (95% o the time) I'll also have one of two Leatherman multi-tools. I keep D cell maglights in the car and under the night stand as backup flashlights. Everything but the gun and spare mag have other handy day to day uses.
