Wait time in Durham NC...Day 89 today

Well I am ready to get that phone call from the Sheriff's office. Day 89 is today Friday, but day 90 is tomorrow Saturday, seeing as how they are closed Saturday/Sunday, I should get the call today?

Application turned in May 13th, so they probably started the "process" of sitting on it until the following Monday the 16th. They seem to think 90 days would be August 17th, which would be 94+ days.

I know you all are thinking its only 4 days past 90 be patient, I am trying its just hard to wait when everyone knows it shouldn't take more than a month at most. Heck I don't know what they'll do when December 1 rolls around they will only have 45 days to issue them then.

The law here says they MUST issue a response within 90 days. I am ready to purchase my first civilian handgun a FNX 9mm perhaps a .40.

It's Durham, the only city in North Carolina where you must register your handgun. They are extremely opposed to Concealed Carry and I've heard of it taking 110 days plus to get the permit back. You can call your State Senator to help the process out though once the 90 day period has passed.

True it is Durham! :) They are the most unfriendly and uncaring group of folks. They have no sense of humor down there in that hole of an office....

I dont want to get anyone in trouble, but I want my permit...

Good luck. Durham seems to be a pain all the way around where guns are concerned.

Wow, that's pretty bad. When I used to live in Raleigh (just a few years ago) I got mine from Wake Co in about 2 weeks.

A coworker of mine recently got his license in Durham. He said it took the full 90 days, exactly. I sympathize with you 100% as I am in the long wait period in Guilford county. I admit that it really irritates me that many of the counties process them in 2-3 weeks which especially if you have a clean record is all it should take, while others just drag it out. This abuse probably had a lot to do with why the time limit was halved.

Here is one interesting way to look at it: If you apply for your permit after (about) Oct 15th, you will wait longer to get your permit than if you wait until Dec 1st to submit your application.

Day 89 I would be calling the department. Day 91 I would be filing a formal complaint. What are they going to do come December when it drops to 45 days?

Start with the Sheriff's Dept I bet you it's sitting on someone's desk and has been since about day 10. File the complaint and I bet they find it.

I am still looking for the link I had found once and will post it if I can find it again.******edit***** it is the attorney generals office, just not sure which one.

EDIT: I have emailed the Department and will post the response, if any, I receive.

Good luck. I received my permit from Transylvania county in about 65-70 days earlier this year.

OP: To-Do list for Monday (Day 92)...

Get to know your State Senator (or one of his aides).

Good Luck, and keep us posted with your progress!
