you are trying to bend the law, this is very dangerous and in many place especially in the NE states could get you many nights in jail. for example NJ considers a gun to be loaded if a mag is in proximity to an otherwise unloaded weapon.
the federal laws regarding travelling with a weapon will protect you to a point as long as you comply to it's provisions, and being overly cute is a bad path to go down
As an ex New Yorker I will also agree with the LEAVE IT HOME folks. I visit NY & NJ often since I can not disown my kids for living there and it is NOT a good idea. As an aside you should also check the knife and pepper rules which are also strange.
The way the gears grind you may end up with a weapons charge for every piece and don't forget the possesion of a mag that holds more than 10 rounds is a charge even without a firearm. Isn't there a hollow point law up around that area too? Charge for each round.
You can't beat a corrupt system by being more corrupt. They wrote the rule books.
