Ever leave the house just to try new carry set-up?

I think my wife thinks I'm crazy but today (not the first time) I actually considered getting dressed, packing up our daughter and heading off to somewhere just to test the ride on my daytime carry holster. I made a slight modification to it to hold it in closer to my body. Well laziness prevailed today but I feel goofy wanting to leave the house with out a destination just to carry. Thoughts?

Sometimes you really need to get in and out of the car, walk around and stuff, for a period of time, too, to know how your carry really works. Especially if you plan on wearing all day.

Could have always gone to the LGS. That way you could have checked out the modifications on your rig, as well as drooled over the guns they have.

You practice shooting, holstering, aiming, safety, why wouldn't you make sure you're comfortable with your carry setup?
Just cause you're paranoid, doesn't mean you're wrong....

    Answer is Yes.

If I could have checked them out for a day before buying; the two plus boxes full, there would have been far less just setting in those boxes.

I used to do this constantly when I first started...tried everything from ankle/pocket/off body carry. I found I like strong side IWB around 6-7 o clock. I also bug too. It takes experiments to really find out.

I wear a new holster around my property for at least a few hours. I bought a nice paddle holster that started hurting bad after a couple of hours, digging into my hip. Got a really nice High Noon holster, love it but, being a new holster, you could hear me squeaking 25 yards away. Nice to check them out in private before out in public.

Nothing wrong with making sure all of your 'equipment' works as it should.

Yep, I've done this. You have to actually get out there and see how your rig works.

I can't say I've ever made a special trip just for that purpose...but I sure don't see anything wrong with it. Having two young kids, there's always a reason to go to Wal Mart...and my wife and I argue over who gets to go and who has to stay home with the youngins. Now I have piddled around in Wally World looking at everything from toy cars to kitchenware just to enjoy the peace and quiet a little longer. You know you have young kids when Wal Mart equates to peace and quiet.

I will plead guilty Whenever I get a new setup I will wear it around the house to get a feel for it, but soon want to get out in the real world for a test drive. I can admit to having done this with new guns, holsters, belts and even some clothes just to see how they fit while out and about.
