You seem really ill-informed to be asking this. Chicago is even worse than New York and about like Washington, D.C. as far as carrying goes; in 2 words, forget it! Illinois as a state is one of the last holdouts as far as having any kind of CCW law, and Chicago itself is so anti-gun as to make the rest of the state seem gun-friendly. Don't have a gun on or around you if going to Chicago.

Dont know. Check you state laws and see if they have reciprocal laws. I would make DANG sure it was legal before I did it. The mobsters that run Chicago are as antigun as can be and if some antigun cop busts you with a gun you are going to be on a first name basis with Bubba in the jail cell.

Come to think of it, Ohio is pretty anti also.

Remember that ignorance of the law is no excuse. Know the law and do the research yourself. Dont takle any advice from the "internet" even though well meaning it is no substitue for reality.

Ilianoy is very anti and there is NO ccw there and NO resiprocity. You can have a weapon but in a locked box with ammo seperate. I can't remember if you have to take it down or not for sure but you should check that also before going.

I also concure with HotGuns with his statement. Know the law before going.

There is no way a citizen can carry in Chicago legally.

I just do not go there.

elrey718, packing.org is a good site for info but even there you need to proceed with caution as a lot of times it is hard to keep up with all of the updated info, they even have a disclaimer. Check Illianoy state highway patrol website!

This is no flame but I have to defend my state no matter how screwed up it is.
If Ohio were anti gun it wouldn't be a shall issue state.
Sure the law is screwed up but at least you can carry.
Unlike NY, IL, WIS, NJ and D.C. we can defend ourselves.
There aren't any crazy hurdles you have to jump through to obtain a permit either.

i agree with the last 2 posters that Ohio is making progress and better than a lot of places...

As a neighbor to the north in michigan, the Car Carry requirements/stipulations are RIDICULOUS. definitely need to be worked on, as i'm sure everyone will admit

    The answer is NO

You can not take your handgun to Chicago to help a friend move there for any reason legally. If you were passing through while going West, you would probably have some protection under Federal Law.

    Thats a good thing...

Can you tote "assault weapons" in a vehicle ?
Do you need an FOID card tp purchase ammo ?
Do you have to register ?
Are you limited to one gun every so often ?

When I say "anti" that incudes all of the above.

The "shall issue" is definatley a step in the right direction and Im happy for yall, but its just a start. It'll take years for the previously anti-gun reputation to get any better and its pretty much up to the permit carriers to change the rest of the stuff to their liking.

As one that has been activley involved in my own state, I know that these things take time.

Just to add - knowing that Packing has been a bit behind on info - check out too http://www.handgunlaw.us which seems right now to be possibly the definitive source.
