I decided to start carry concealed after I had a close friend robbed and shot at gun point. He died on the spot and I told myself that I would do my best not to let this happy to myself or someone I love. I had also grown up with firearms and was in the military.

I have a fair amount of family ask me that. They tell me that no one would attack someone my size. Sure. I tell them I would be helpless against a five foot nothing woman with a gun. And numbers offset things as well. Throw in the fact that I am no longer in my twenties (or thirties), I am not as quick as I once was. And if I am out, I have my family with me. That's three helpless people I must keep safe before I even consider myself. Hell yes I carry a gun.

I carry because I don't like being helpless. My responsibility is to protect my family. I also have a moral responsibility to help protect my community (one of the reasons I spent 24 years in the Army). No-one with intelligence goes looking for a fight. I used to train in karate, and I can guarentee one thing; in a fight, at least one person is going to get hurt. So, when do you fight? When the consequences of NOT fighting are worse than the consequences OF fighting. My 2 cents, anyway

I carry to protect myself and my family.
Respect me or fear me...if you seek to harm me and do not respect me...it would be better for you to fear me.
I'm an old man, don't choose me as a victim...I'm too old to fight, so... Mmmmm, what is that saying?

I will admit at first i started carrying back in 2005 because I thought it was cool to have one should something happen but as i got older and more pragmatic I carry for my personal protection and the protection of anyone else. What I mean is If i have the means to defend a person behind hurt then I will help that person as well as defend myself and family. Only you can truly protect yourself. The police yeah are a response team. Mostly called when something is going down or after it has already happened but what about the time before the cops are called and before they get there. That could take a long time and that's only if i have the chance to call them. No One must have the ability to protect themselves and what they own at all times.

That being said though the persona who carries needs to understand the Gun is not a Toy and not anything to pull out at the slightest thing to let someone know they have it.

Example: I tend to get road rage some times. Especially when someone cuts me off and damn near clips me only to get a middle finger flung at me too. How many times have i wanted to drive along side and show them I have a gun to get them to chill the hell out. Oh all the time but I don't because its not a toy and that would be stupid to do. So its one of those things you know you have to just let go. just as spider man always quotes in the comics.

"With great power comes Great Responsibility" same thing with normal power comes Responsibility. The gun is your power to protect yourself but you have to be responsible for it. If we abuse it it just gives the anti-gun activists in Politics another reason to want to get rid of them.

I carry because there has been so many instances in my life where I look back and say I should have done this or I should have done that. Now that I am a little older, married and a homeowner, I take notice of of shananigans going on in my immediate vicinity(i.e. Bloods and MS13 setting up shop less than 2 miles away). I refuse to be in a situation where I look back and say, damn, if only I had a firearm to carry, things would not be this way(feel free to use your imagination). So back in August I made the decision to get my LTCF, purchase a firearm and practice as much as possible.

I knew someone who owned guns but didn't think he needed to have a firearm with him the day he was carjacked and murdered because it was a "safe" part of town.

    Exclamation answer me this ...

Read the newspaper, listen to the news on the radio, watch the evening news. Now tell me why any sane individual that wants to stay alive would not carry? If you are not in fear of terrorist, murder, assault, rape, kiddnapping, robbery, or simply being beaten to death, then you are flat out ignorant.

I carry because I never want to be at the mercy of somebody who has none.

I personally, expect there to be a more chaotic society in the near future. I wanted to have my Constitutional right to keep and bare arms solidified by having the license.

If I am wrong, no harm done, if I am right, at least I prepared the best I could.

There are probably 130million reasons why people carry....for me it became apparent to me that there were people in the US that want to end our right to carry and protect our families....
there are several reasons for me ...1) my age is accelerating and my ability to protect myself and family is apparant to me, isn't going to be any easier as it was when I was half my age. 2)a friend of mine was a police officer and with the advent of budget cuts run amoke in my town...the first thing the city did was cut the police force. my friend told me to buy a weapon and learn to use it...3)which brings me to the main reason..I've owned weapons since I was 9 yrs old...expert marksman in the military.....have owned weapons most of my adult life and feel the best defense is to own, learn to deploy, and never hesitate to use force to protect myself and family......
so..the main reason I carry concieled is to protect myself and my family.....they are more important too me than anything else.....a cop will only come to your aid to write the report and carry the body away......

    .....the funniest reason I ever heard was " I carry a gun because I can't carry a policeman" -
    but,
the reason I carry is I refuse to allow someone to do me harm without my being able to at least try to defend myself......

I carry because i witnessed the L.A. riots in which random people were pulled from cars and in some cases beaten to death. I remember the chief of police telling people that they are on their own and the police cannot maintain order.I remember the only businesses that kept from being torched and looted were those stores protected by armed owners willing and able to fight back. I do not want to be a helpless victim without means to defend myself . And i dont want to be helpless in protecting my family, friends, and neighbors. Today close to 20 yrs later we have flash mobs carjackings home invasions and an economy that lends itself to more desperate people willing to do others harm. We are seeing more and more random acts of mass murder and full city riots may become common place in the near future. Be prepared,be ready and able. I trust The Lord Jesus Christ and there is an old arab proverbs that is worth remembering. "Trust in allah and tie up your camel" Trust God and be prepared with the resources He has placed at your disposal. It is the responsible thing to do for you and your loved ones and neighbors...

Since this is a serious request from Mr. Workman, I will treat it as such. I don't like to carry. I like firearms and shooting and take pleasure in a fine piece of equipment with which I can consistently demonstrate my inability to operate perfectly. I don't like to carry because I am scared of the legal system and how they could interpret my or my family members defense with a firearm. I have fair to strong confidence, not certainty since I haven't experienced it, that I would not draw my gun for other than life saving, no retreat situations. I carry about 95% of the time (and feel stupid for not carrying the remaining 5% due to laziness or imagined convenience) mainly because it is a habit that I, my wife, and my grown son have developed over the years. We live in a high crime, highly violent central Florida. I am too lazy and too set in my ways to move to what may or may not be a less risky location within the US. There are too many individuals out there that do not have my respect for human life and would rather violently kill someone to gain a modicum of respect within a gang or subculture or some set of society that feels what is mine should be theirs for me to ignore; so I carry. I daily am concerned (read that as worried to the point of sleeplessness at times) that my wife or son will get into a situation that will require them to use their firearm and put theirs, and my life, in a spiraling descent into a less than satisfactory legal system. For the record, I am former military and currently a safety and security professional with a slightly above middle income, all my bills are paid on time, I live within my means in a modest paid for home with two 10+ year old cars that are also paid off, and am silently watching my retirement funds dwindle due to this corrupt, socialistic/communistic leaning society. I despise those who want the government to pay their way through life but feel my, and my family's, lives worth fighting for, so I carry. I admire Dave Workman for what he has accomplished and the fact he posts under his own name with no avator or pseudonym to hide behind. This is Tom Gresham's, another person I admire, stance as well. I'm trying to get there. Larry
