    Cool Concealed Carry With Police Escort....

    Am I missing something here?

    If I have a CCW and this is varified by a police officer at the West Palm Beach City Hall I can carry my gun in City Hall but I need a police escort.

    This seems like a waste of police services but maybe I'm missing something ....

    As for the retired NYPD cop he needs to avail himself of HR-218 unless he has a problem with yearly certification from an FDLE Instructor as it would give him more latitude then a Fla. CCW.

    I do not see a problem with this. You are allowed to carry a weapon and government officials are allowed to carry a cop.

    I wonder how many officers they will have hanging around to escort armed people coming in.

    I'd be seriously annoyed if I had to do this, on either side of the fence.

    I have no problem with CCW carry inside of City Hall. I does seem like a waste of resources/tax dollars to escort the carrier.

    I think the Mayor reversed her position and said that the first floor was ok without an escort?

    Just another example of government wasting taxpayer dollars.

    Hmm.... I'm a little confused on this. I thought it was federal law that county, state and federal government buildings were off limits?

    In NC it falls to the respective government agencies. State law covers state buildings, county covers county, etc. The feds only have a say on their property. Of course, they are nearly all posted across the board though. Sigh.

    Wrong; federal law does cover some or all federal buildings but not state or city.

    Ah, thanks. I was not aware of that. I just assumed, and I know I did this because I read it in Florida Statute 790.XX, that all government buildings are off limits. That must just be the Florida addition to that. I wonder though, if that's in the Florida State Statute, if it shouldn't still apply? I thought the repeal was to any city or other less than state governing bodies rules and laws; this prohibition to carrying in any government building is in the state statute.

    "We have a lot of people today that think nothing about taking guns and shooting each other, and I think you put public officials in a very, very bad position," Roberts said.
    And we call those people "criminals."

    How often do you hear about a shootout at city hall? Not so often.
    How often do you hear about a shootout by CCW permit holders? Pretty much - NEVER!
    Multiply the two and you get a value very, very close to zero.

    And just why are "public officials" so much more deserving of protection than those that they supposedly serve?

    If you are going to carry concealed in Florida you need to know the laws.

    2. Any police, sheriff, or highway patrol station;
    3. Any detention facility, prison, or jail;
    4. Any courthouse;
    5. Any courtroom, except that nothing in this section would preclude a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed weapon in his or her courtroom;
    6. Any polling place;
    7. Any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district;
    8. Any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof;
    9. Any school, college, or professional athletic event not related to firearms;
    10. Any elementary or secondary school facility or administration building;
    11. Any career center;
    12. Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose;
    13. Any college or university facility unless the licensee is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or nonlethal electric weapon or device designed solely for defensive purposes and the weapon does not fire a dart or projectile;
    14. The inside of the passenger terminal and sterile area of any airport, provided that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, which firearm is encased for shipment for purposes of checking such firearm as baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; or
    15. Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law.
