There has got to be more to the story. Guns just don't fire if dropped. I think this is what he told the cop to keep from looking like a idiot and possibly having charges filed against him.
It happened a few days ago. Here is more, with the local news readers yukking it up. Yes, it involves a CHL

And another. It looks like the guy carrying the gun also had it loaded with fmj's, judging from the holes and the X-ray. Too bad they didn't mention the model of pistol and holster.

I wonder what kind of holster he was wearing? Lots of people will pay $500-$800 on a gun, but feel a $20 holster is "good enough!"
Gun owner needs to buy a new freaking holster besides paying for the medical bills.

Call me Kooky, I think it happened just the way they say it did. Mechanical devices (even modern ones) fail sometimes, even redundant back-up systems fail sometimes. I don't know what kind of gun the guy had, but it doesn't seem far fetched to me that this could have happened exactly as stated.

Probably a Cobra firearms gun in an uncle Mikes one size fits all holster
I actually had a RIA 1911 fall outa my holster a coupla years ago and discharge, when I reholstered after leaving the VA I got part of my shirt caught in the holster, when I went to take my shirt off later it pulled the gun out and gun hit on the muzzle causing the firing pin to hit the primer and bang, that was with a gun that has a grip safety, and a manual thumb safety, after the AD,I bought a heavier Firing Pin spring
