Well, my Applebee's is on the list. True to form, they were as slow in posting the sign (it went up since lunch yesterday) as they are in serving food. I have sent a response to Applebee's providing them with the particulars they were interested in in thier reply to me. We shall see where this goes.

I weighed in on this one - here's what I sent:
I was very disappointed to find out that Apple American franchises in Ohio are posting "No Firearms Allowed" signs. I understand that Corporate Policy is to follow State Law; which in the case of Ohio is to allow concealed carry as long as the person carrying is not drinking or under the influence. I don't understand why the franchises in Ohio are attempting to repeal citizens' rights. Until this issue is resolved by the removal of these signs and restrictions, neither I nor any of my family will patronize any Applebee's establishments. We will vote with our wallets.
Not sure if it will cause them to change anything, but FWIW, there it is.
I understand all of the previous regarding property rights (and agree with them), CYA, litigation and the like. I see it as basically letting them know that if this is what they choose to do, then I will choose to eat elsewhere.
Do anyone really think that posting a sign is going to stop someone with an axe to grind?

OK, this is going to be long - sorry. I responded to the response I got from Applebee's Corporate yesterday (post 103). In reply to my response, I received a note from Applebee's Corporate that the franchisee would be contacting me.
Short version - While Applebee's Corporate appears to have a reasonable policy, the franchisee refuses to adopt it. I have informed them that I will seek other solutions for my dining needs and that I am a member of a rather large forum (this one) and would inform the group of what I learned. See below for the details.
Here is thier communique.
Mr. XXXX,
Thank you for your response and feedback regarding our restaurants in Ohio. Our Franchise policy is that we do not allow firearms on the premises, with the exception of law enforcement personnel. Our company did take the time to review our policy and we have decided to maintain our existing policy with respect to firearms in all states in which we operate. We find that maintaining consistent policies makes it easier for us to focus on providing great food and service.
Thank you again for your input; your opinion is greatly valued. We hope that you will continue to give us the opportunity to serve you.
Sincerely,
Becky Hellman

I responded back to both the franchisee and Applebee's corporate as follows:
Dear Applebee’s:
Below [it was below in the original, it is above here] is the response you informed my could be on the way. I appreciate the response and timely nature of the response. While I understand the position of your franchisee, it will have an adverse impact not only on the particular franchisee, but on all franchise and company-owned Applebee’s stores for the following reasons.
A. I will take my business to other restaurants where I am welcome as is. As a licensed concealed carrier, I am among the most responsible members of our society.
B. I am a member of an on-line forum, www.defensivecarry.com “DC”, that has many tens of thousands of members. I have heard that we have as many as 40,000 members. This topic has become a discussion item on the forum and, while I suspect you will not really notice the loss of my business, the combine impact of our group taking our business elsewhere may be a different matter. Surely not all members of this group will eschew Applebee’s over this issue, but a good many have expressed their decision to so do.
C. Many members of DC are also members of other fora and state firearm owners groups. This topic has cross-pollinated to several other fora. While most concealed carriers don’t have a problem with your food and a good many have enjoyed Applebee’s products in the past, many are taking a principled stance in this issue. Again, we are a law-abiding crowd and we understand that you have the right to post your restaurants as you see fit. We also understand that we have options and do not have to support establishments that prefer to be unarmed – at least from legally carried weapons.
I certainly hope that your policy works for you and that you don’t have a Luby’s incident. That was a horrible, but largely preventable event the magnitude of which was fostered by a “no weapons” policy. The only armed person in Luby’s that day was the perpetrator and Luby’s policy resulted in excessive loss of life. It is because of events like this that many states have passed concealed carry laws into place to allow their citizens to defend themselves. Understand that by putting up a no guns sign, you are only disarming the law-abiding portion of your patrons. Criminals will do as they please and walk in right past such signs.
Again, I realize you have the right to post your restaurants, but expect that people who have a security-focused outlook will dine elsewhere. If you change your policy, or more to the point, get this franchisee to follow the corporate policy you informed me of yesterday, please let me know and I will be happy to return as an Applebee’s customer and let the folks at DC know of your change as well.
Sincerely,
Following is my initial response sent to Applebee's corporate today.
Dear Kaylan B:
The Applebee’s at [location] has a sign posted between the outside door and the inner door informing all that persons with firearms, even if they have a permit from the state allowing for concealed carry of said firearm, are not allowed to come into the store without first disarming. As I am sure you are aware, the law in Ohio is that, barring a posting such as the one in place at the restaurant in question, persons licensed to carry a concealed weapon are allowed to do so in an establishment that serves alcohol as long as they do not imbibe and are not under the influence of alcohol or other substances. I am not aware of any specific instances that have occurred at this restaurant other than when I see such a sign, I find an alternative place to spend my dining dollars.
There are several restaurants in the near vicinity of this Applebee’s that are not posted. Its most direct competitor in the local area is a Buffalo Wings & Rings which is about 300 yards away. It is not posted.
As you noted below, the laws apply equally to all establishments. This Applebee’s is handicapping itself by using a provision in the law that allows it to eliminate legally carried firearms from its establishment. I understand that posting the restaurant is not illegal, but the consequence of this action is that persons who care about their safety will seek other restaurants to satisfy their hunger.
As I stated in my prior e-mail, I will avoid all Applebee’s until this situation is resolved. There are alternatives in almost all circumstances and it is simply not worth my time to have to park the car and scope out the restaurant to see if it is posted then go somewhere else. It is easier to just to somewhere else in the first place.
I appreciate your input.
Sincerely,
It's the Land of Opportunity, not the Land of Entitlements - Vote America!!!

They can post signs all they want in my state. Means jack poo and carries no weight of law. I don't eat there, and won't. But part of me wants to go in and have a coke while carrying and then write them a letter telling them I did and they can suck it.
And to the OP of this thread, I applaud you for your efforts. I hope the members of this forum who read this choose to show their disgust by not spending their money at this horrible food place. Remember, bad things happen when good men do nothing. Thank you for doing something.

Well, I live this thing called CC. As such I am done with all Applebees. Posted or not. We ate there once a week for the last ten years mostly on a Sunday after church. No more. That's at a minimum 3k a year loss for Applebees. My average bill was $60+tip.

For what it's worth, we went out to eat this evening and for us that is a fairly rare event. My wife asked where I wanted to go. My very first thought was that you can take Applebees right off the list of options. Instead we chose to patronize a smaller, local non chain place.

Checked late this afternoon:
Brice Road location in Reynoldsburg, OH IS POSTED.
They have the CPZ sign at eye level in the small area between the inner and outer entrance doors. I doubt if it can be seen just driving thru their lot.
Ruby Tuesday's is within 100 yards, but I had brain fade and forgot to check there.
O'Charley's is a couple miles down the road in Canal Winchester and is NOT posted.

I got a response to my email to them:
Dear XXXX,
We received your e-mail and have forwarded it to Apple American, our franchisee that owns this location. One of their representatives should be contacting you within the next four business days.
If we may be of further assistance, you can reach us by calling 888-59-APPLE (888-592-7753) between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, central time.
Sincerely,

I'm anxiously awaiting their reply...

Just go elsewhere and eat. They are private property. U step on their property, follow what they want just as u want others to do on ur own property.

Why stand for a policy that is irrational? Yes you can go somewhere else. You can also protest a companies bad policy..That is what make this country great.

History Revisited
This issue is the same as the public accommodations discussion involving the Civil Rights Law of 1964. Applebee's is in business to make money, and to do so they must allow anybody who has money and behaves themselves to purchase food and drink. Substitute Black, or Negro, or the lost to history phase - Colored People (as in the NAACP - Nation Association of Colored People) for law-abiding citizens carrying concealed, and you can easily get the picture.
National chains, such as hotels/motels, supported the 1964 law, since it meant that there were national standards for dealing with customers. Local habits did not count.
