Suggestion - if your local PD has an Auxiliary, go sign up and volunteer. If you ever need to defend yourself or others while off duty, it never hurts to have an "official good guy badge" in your wallet. Sure, it will cost you some free time, but you will be serving your community, getting to know the local LEOs and Police Chief, and maybe even some of the local political leaders. It can be good to have friends in high places.
