My dad just got his permit today. Both he and I sent our applications in the same envelope first thing in the morning on the 1st. I received my permit 2 days ago on the 8th. My permit number is just over 1500, and his permit is just over 2000. Also, both of our checks only cleared today in the bank, and we both have our permits already. We are both extremely happy to be done with this first time ever system of theirs. Again, same envelope, but my dad had to wait for 500 other permits to be processed and 2 more days of waiting. Extremely irritating. Do not send more than one in an envelope, as it appears they will like to mess with you and split them up anyways. We wish you guys luck, and once you hold it in your hand, it is still all worth it. We were worried that there was a problem, and they give you NO way to resolve any problems. They state on the application that they will not accept any phone calls, so if you submitted another letter telling them of your problem that your permit might be lost in the mail or whatever, who knows how many thousands of envelopes will be before they ever get to your envelope again. Just thought I would share these facts so perhaps it will help you figure out their system and how they are operating. The more facts the better.
I would first like to thank all the Veterans and their families today. God bless you for your service and sacrifice.
I found this message board searching the time frame Wisconsinites were getting CCW permits mailed to them.
I am happy to report I received my permit on 11/9/11. I mailed the application in at 10:30 am. 11/1/11 and my check has not cleared yet.
I am not an avid poster on forums but I find the collective opinion of a large group of like minded people to be a better source of common sense information than an individual " expert " on a topic. I am not disparaging any experts. Thanks and be safe on a great lucky day 11/11/11.
See there is your mistake, you are assuming they have something resembling a system.
Has anyone else provided a DD Form 214 and/or DD 256 copy exclusively as proof of training for the WI CCW (listed as proof of qualified training in the application instructions)? I used a copy of my DD 214 and also DD 256A with my application, mailed Nov. 1. I have not yet received my license, but my wife received hers, #205, on Nov. 4 - she mailed hers separately on Nov. 1 also, with a copy of her expired Florida license! I am still being taunted by her.
This may have been stupid on my part, as my DD 214 released me from an honorable 2 years of active duty (USAR) in 1963 (no time limit was stated). Actually, I have 5 non-resident state carry licenses and could have used any one or all of them, but perversely wanted to finally have a use for this form alone. So given that my form is 48 years old, perhaps I screwed up my application.
In reply to earlier threads, I agree that DD 214 provides no proof of handgun training (my basic training was with the M1 Garand), but surely basic training must be superior to a hunter safety course. Also, in reply to a previous thread stressing the importance of saying "rifle" vs "gun" in basic training: in my experience anyone 50 years ago foolish enough to refer to his rifle as a "gun" found himself standing in front of his buddies loudly reciting the following (holding his "gun" in one hand and his rifle in the other) refrain: "This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for fighting, this is for fun".
I applied and put my application in at the airport 24 inch hour post office. I was told my letter would be in Madison by 1pmmaybe the first day nov 1. Still no permit and check not cashed. If I knew I could go to Madison and wait I would have taken the day off and been there on the first. I hope my permit shows up. I have a Florida and Utah permit and still can't carry in my home state. I am glad I found this thread.
Got my permit today. Sent application in on the first by regular mail. Check cleared my bank last Thursday.
My number is in the 2400's
stptg65 - I also mailed mine out on 11/1 along with my DD214 which I received in 1970. My check cleared on Thursday, but no permit yet.
I mailed mine on 11/1 as well and have not received my permit yet. But I wonder if any future posters when they receive their permit could provide the number on their permit as well? Just to get an idea of how many permits have been processed, etc. Congrats to those of you that have received your already and hope I get mine soon! Thanks!
DapperDan: Good to know your DD214 is dated 1970. I also included with my 1963 DD214 my 1968 DD256 final discharge from USAR (mailed Nov. 1). If I get my permit next week it may alleviate my suspicion that old guys with prior active duty military service have had their apps. shunted to a "later" pile. In any case, I think prior military service should take precedence over mickey mouse one day training courses with no live fire requirements, or a hunter safety course so you don't shoot yourself or a hunting companion. Thus far there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the process - at the very least, processing in order of postmarks would make sense. But from what I have read so far on the on line posts, apps. mailed Nov. 1 languish while others of the same date granted almost immediately; permits issued w/o checks cashed, or vice-versa; and everyone (myself included) waits for the daily mail. Anyone who has inside information would be appreciated.
Wisconsin DOJ takes thousands of concealed carry apps | Superior Telegram | Superior, Wisconsin
Agency officials estimate they've received 30,420 applications between Nov. 1, when the law took effect, and Wednesday. They've approved 3,689 applications and printed 3,287 permits over that span.
According to my calculations they are getting only 410+ out per day. with 3,287 as of last Wednesday that means it will take 74 days to get them all completed assuming no more have or will come in. They are under a 45 day mandate. Seems like they ave issues already.
If some people around madison would like to help out, they're hiring.
