I just want to make sure that I understand the liability law correctly.

Basically businesses that allow concealed weapons are not liable for any damage done by those who carry weapons. The weapon carrier is responsible.

If a business chooses to not allow concealed weapons, they are not liable for damage if someone is unable to defend themselves. Or at least the law is inconclusive to that effect.

    Correct?

Here is a paragraph excerpt from Axley.com regarding the new laws.

In addition, the new law gives businesses the right to prohibit weapons on their property by posting signs to that effect. At the same time, it grants immunity to property owners from legal liability for consequences of a decision not to prohibit weapons. In other words, it provides the incentive of immunity if a business chooses not to post signs prohibiting licensed individuals from carrying weapons onto the property. The law does not mention liability or immunity for entities which prohibit weapons. It is important to note, though, that this does not add risks or liability to those entities. There are no particular liabilities anticipated from the decision to post signs prohibiting weapons. Instead of focusing on immunity, businesses should consider their own circumstances and factors such as how best to protect employees and patrons, and the specific nature and vulnerabilities of the facility or place of business. For instance, places with a high volume of customer traffic will have differing considerations than manufacturing facilities that do not serve consumers on-site. Additionally, insurance costs may factor in if insurers begin to change premiums according to whether or not a business prohibits weapons.

The law is as of yet unclear. It does absolve business from liability if they do NOT post. It's been suggested and rightfully so IMHO that those that do post may incur added liability in a shooting especially if the person claims they could have and would have defended themselves or others if they had been allowed to legally carry their weapon into the establishment. My guess there will be a state supreme court case on this in the years to come.
I carry to protect myself and my loved ones from the BG's. Not to solve societies problems. That said: if more carried the deterrent would only have a positive overall effect on those problems.

I'll be very interested to see how this plays out. I can see valid points for both sides of the argument.

    Check cashed Nov 8th
Permit issued 12-13-11, 25,600 and change

Well, we went out to celebrate and obviously I was 'strapped'!!
All day today, in and out of businesses, I carried my 45.

Wow it feels great to be able to do it finally!

To all those still waiting, hopefully yours will come soon.

Thanks to all for posting, it made me feel a bit better to see others were waiting as long as me, even though it was no fun to wait that long.

I will continue to read these posts and also post which businesses I see that have the 'No Weapons' signs, so that we may collectively boycott them.

Be safe, all, and enjoy our new concealed carry rights!

Looks like tomorrow I'll be buying that new Glock that I've had my eye on for the last two months.

Thanks again, everyone and Happy Holidays.
Hope by celebrate you don't mean drinking
