The gun served it's purpose, they ran. I hope they got caught and did some time, and all else came out with the dog and the wounds.

It does point out how fast things will happen. I don't think people have a good concept of that, many seem to believe they will have time to "think".

Like I always hear, most of the time, the mere presence of a handgun will deescalate most situations, which IMO is a good thing. Less legal fees and mental health problem you'll need to deal with in the near future. I'd much rather somebody run from the sight of my Glock then to continue to press forward and me having to shoot and possible kill them.

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope you and your pup are ok.

So, to be maliciously sarcastic, one more good reason to not use a laser. Without that laser
you'd have had a good shoot. The dang laser gave them the chance to run. 2 AM and dark, a blued j frame sans laser could have permanently solved the crime problem in the neighborhood.

    count me in Mrs. Doubtfire...

though situtional awareness would have saved the night.

...all that being cut had to hurt; how does the police report read?
as i've noticed about others--that they do not always do as i think they will nor often as they say they will.
this not only makes life interesting, it makes it dangerous too.

Hey Chris that's a crazy story. Hard to read and understand though. Congratulations on surviving!

There was a drug deal going on outside your front door?

They reached DOWN to cut your sick dog? But got you in the pectoral muscle (chest)?

They had scalpels? You saw this?

1/16 inch from your liver? Assuming you went to the ED?

Can you elaborate and give us more coherent details with a rewriting of the event?

I see you live in El Dorado County. What's the permitting atmosphere there? I found something on Google from them about showing need and references.

If you were cut as bad as you say, and they were running away, I for one would have still fired at them if able to do so. It seems like they were trying to kill you, and you have the right to protect your self.

That would have been a mistake. You have a right to use deadly force when being attacked, when the threat of death or grave bodliy injury is imminant. When they are running away, the threat is over. Period. What happened before is over. You may be wounded, but they are done attacking, and your justification to use deadly force left with them.

Stop the bleeding, call 911, give a good report to the responders, and testify at their trial.

Shoot while they are running away and most likely go to jail in every state I know of. Timing is everything.
