Can a DUI in 09 prevent me from purchasing a handgun, or obtaining a ccw im MI? Bought a cab drive in downtown metro Detroit. Please no lectures asking a question would like to find out before I go spending money on either a purchase permit or ccw permit/class.

Actually it will probably depend on the charges. If it was felony DUI you will probably be denied.

Here is a list from MSP that covers the requirements for an MI CPL. Like the others said, it depends on the charges and actual conviction.

This is actually something I'm curious about as well. A good buddy of mine got a DUI a couple years back and has completely changed to a non drinker but I'm curious if there is any exemptions via the local gunboard so I'll watch and see if anyone else pipes up with more info;)
