This Is The First 4 Rules I Go By:
    1. Keep it discreet.
    2. Know your state's local gun/use of force laws.
    3. Take more training to improve yourself.
    4. Maintain your carry gun, especially w/ semiautos, at least once a week.

    1:Carry everywhere legal.
    2:Don't go anywhere stupid.
    3:Don't do stupid things
4:Go home at the end of the day, sometimes running or giving up your wallet is the smarter thing.
I know not what this "overkill" means.

Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.

Almost every reply post here is based on sound common sense. (Good job all)
So IMO if you need to ask the question. Or you glean any great insight form any of these responses. You have no ability to think on your own and you should not carry a gun.

Rule 1 People with no common sense should not carry a gun.
Rule 2 People with no common sense should not carry a gun.
Rule 3 People with no common sense should not carry a gun.
Rule 4 People with no common sense should not carry a gun.

    1. Get the proper training.
    2. Pick the right weapon for what your needs are.
    3. Practice, practice, practice every chance you get.
    4. Never tell, stay out of harms way, know your environment.

1: Always Carry, Never Tell. (Use your damn head... you know I mean where legal.)
    2: Concealed means concealed.
    3: Keep your mouth shut.
4: Don't go to stupid places with stupid people.
    ALWAYS carry! - NEVER tell!

Not just the state but the county, too. Especially if that county is Arlington, VA, county.

    1. If you are going to carry concealed, then be serious about the concealed part.
    2. Know your laws front and back. When in doubt, ask a lawyer, not a cop.
    3. Respect the rights of property owners to prohibit guns on their property. You may not agree with them, but they have legal rights too. If a business, dont patronize it.
    4. Every day you strap on, have it in your head that you might have to kill someone.
