A small victory...
For those not familiar with Wisconsin legislation, businesses are able to post a sign saying no concealed weapons are allowed.
I live and work in Madison Wisconsin. There is a restaurant that I used to visit frequently, and then one day I saw the sign saying I couldn't carry in their building.
Now, I don't carry when I'm at work because I can't due to my employer. But still, it bugged me. The restaurant is owned by a larger group (Food Fight Inc.) who operates many, many, restaurants in the Madison area. Below is an email conversation that I had with the corporate office.

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad to hear that you, as a company,
have not taken that as a general stance. I can't think of a single
negative experience I've had at any of your restaurants.
I am an avid supporter of second amendment rights, and I feel
obligated to no longer do business with companies that infringe on my
constitutional right to bear arms.
I would like to let your company know that I will not do business with
anyone that has that particular sign, regardless of whether or not I
am carrying a concealed weapon. I realize that the amount of business
I do (or any one person) makes no real impact to your bottom line. I
am not the only one that feels this way. There are online communities
that house lists/databases of companies that post these signs.
Do you have a comprehensive list of your establishments that do have
that sign that I can reference when making future lunch/dinner plans?
I noticed today when going to lunch, that the restaurant that spawned this email chain had taken down its conceal carry signs. I consider this a small personal victory and will continue to take this course of action with all businesses.
Well done. That next lunch there is going to taste even better.
Next time you eat there I would thank the manager or owner if possible.
That is a small victory. And large victories are made up of lots of small victories. Well done.
One thing I usually add to my emails to businesses that post 30.06 signs in Texas is something to the effect of "as a concealed carry licensee, I have been background checked and finger printed, and found to have no felonies ever, and no class A or B misdemeanors in the past 7 years, basically nothing other than a speeding ticket. How much do you know about your other patrons? Am I the type of person you want to keep out of your establishment? The posting of a 30.06 sign will not stop someone who intends to do you or your establishment harm, only keep out law-abiding citizens such as myself; is this your intent?"
I usually get back something to the effect of: "I was not aware of the requirements for a concealed carry licensee in the state of Texas. I/the owner, etc only intend to keep our restaurant (establishment, etc) a safe and enjoyable place for our patrons"
And more often than not, they remove the sign if they have the power to. Gotta love the almighty power of the wallet!
Well done indeed. A thank you to the manager would be in order.
Do these signs carry any weight of law in WI? We just ignore them in Indiana.
Yes they carry weight of the law, or so i have read..
To achieve this "small" victory in one of the more liberal areas in the country is no "small" accomplishment. Congrats and well done.
Well done. It's a great feeling to win a victory like this.
Good job! This is encouraging to me to do the same!
