Thumbs up Kudos to Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

Eight Days! That's how long it took to process my CWP from application to permit in hand.

I made an appointment with one of the Department of Agriculture regional licensing offices to take my application in person. It was a model of governmental effectiveness and efficiency.

    • Free, secure parking.
    • The appointment was on time.
    • The facilities were exemplary: modern computers with custom forms to enter your application.
    • Courteous knowledgable staff that know the right answer to all the questions with a glance.
    • Streamlined handoffs to specialists for fingerprinting, photos, and of course money-taking.
    • The entire application took 15 minutes.
    • Hell, there was even hand sanitizer at various stations (I'm no Mister Monk, but flu and cold viruses lust for transmission vectors like public keyboards, mice and fingerprint scanners like bears wish for honey.)

Eight days later I have my permit in hand by US Mail. I'll take a small bow for having my ducks in a row before showing up but credit should go where credit is due.

That's the kind of bureaucracy we need more of.

Florida really seems to have their act together. When my wife applied for a FL non-resident permit by mail, she received her permit exactly 14 days from the date she mailed her application. I was amazed!

Yes, after being inundated with applications following the 2008 elections and totally unprepared for that increase in workload, the Dept. wasted no time in stepping up to the task.

I applied in person 2 days before Christmas 2010 and had the permit in my Ohio mail box in about 12 days and that is with two holidays in between. I cannot say enough about Florida's efficiency in processing permits - of course, it is a pretty good source of income for the state... Still, they are far better than most states in getting the job done.

Florida got pretty bogged down in 2008/2009, but they added staff and got caught up. The regional offices are great, and a huge time saver.

I mailed my app in to Florida.

I was very impressed with the staff in Nevada. I made it my business to stop into the managers office to tell her how impressed I was with her staff .Everybody is quick to complains but few spend the time to complement.

Just received my FL license today 2/11, after having my appointment on 1/30.

12 days, not bad! Otherwise ditto everything the OP said.

Purchased my carry gun at the local gun show today, killer deal too! Currently carrying empty around the house to start to try getting used to it. I have a feeling there will be multiple holster and carry method purchases in the near future until I decide what I am most comfortable with under what conditions...
