Driving across country or, I love my TN permit.

I will be going to Las Vegas Nevada in the near future for training for the new career. (I know, a school in Las Vegas?? That's what I said but that's where it is. Go figure)

I have a company car with this new job. They pay for gas and all maintenance for the vehicle. The company replaces the car when they are 4 years old or make it to 90k miles. No one has ever had their car replaced because of age. They always make it to 90k well before the 4 year mark. But, my vehicle is a 2010 and has just over 50k miles on it. It sat for an extended period of time while they looked for a person to take the job I got. So my boss thinks it needs to have some miles put on it so we can get a new one for me a little faster.

Now I thought I would be flying out to Vegas for the training but my boss mentioned I could drive if I want. This is across a large part of the country I have never traveled through on the ground. I have flown over it many times but never driven it and I think I'd honestly like to do this. Plus, it is way easier and less hassle to take a couple of guns with me while driving that to fly and deal with the TSA.

So, thinking I would most likely have to disarm and lock the gun in the trunk for parts of the trip I jumped on handgunlaw.us and looked up my travel route. To my happy surprise, I have clear sailing all the way from our home in West Tennessee to Las Vegas Nevada! This is not what I expected to find.(remember I just moved from Indiana where the permit is not as accepted around the country as the TN permit is)

I love the Tennessee permit. Indiana was good but Tennessee is accepted and honored in more states which makes my life much easier. We can drive to see my family up in Indiana and my wife's family in coastal Alabama and we never have to worry about if our permits are good where we are traveling. It is truly good to be home in Tennessee again.

If I could choose between free gas for a trip or a free flight I'd choose gas every time. Enjoy your road trip!

Another happy TN permit holder agreeing with ya right here! I've come to have ALOT more appreciation for this great country of ours since I've had my permit as well. I know it has plenty of problems but atleast we've still got this one right. I'll take the oppourtunity to thank all the men and women who have and do serve for our rights and freedom, God bless you all!

Congrats on the new job. I just drove from Wisconsin to Colorado to Arizona then to Vegas two weeks ago. I have my Wisconsin and Florida permit; was able to carry the whole way except for a couple hours in NM and in Nevada. Coming back, I went north through Utah into Colorado to skip NM. Poor choice, hit snow through most of Utah, there was a jackknifed Semi that held up traffic in one part for over an hour. I hit more snow in Colorado too, it was dark, and I could see maybe 20 feet on front of me and the roads where wet and slushy; I ended up sleeping in a rest stop until morning.

I shouldn't have any problem with losing money, I'm not a big gambler. But I would like to see a few of the bigger casinos. Anyone know if carry is allowed in the casinos in Las Vegas? I suspect the answer is no, but I thought I'd ask.

I didn't see any casinos posted while I was there a couple weeks ago. As long as they aren't posted, you should be good to go. I don't have a permit that Nevada recognizes, so I carried a knife and pepper spray everywhere I went.

Concealed carry is legal in casinos even if posted. If you open carry you will escorted out even though it is legal. No gun signs carry no weight in Nevada unless it is a government building.

Welcome to LV. Check out the sights like Hoover Dam, Redrock or Valley of Fire.

Wow. That's awesome. And I do plan on seeing the dam. That is high on the list of things to see actually.

Don't forget the dam tour, the new bridge named for Pat Tillman and a former NV governor and maybe some hiking weather permitting. It's getting hot already. There are some great trails through the old train tunnels carved through the mountains they used when they built the dam. One is off of the parking garage 5th floor.

Check out a place called The Coffee Cup in Boulder City. Great food at a great price. FYI, Boulder City has no gaming since its charter doesn't allow it. It's a quaint little town. They have a big park where the bighorn sheep come to feed right up next to people enjoying the park. Lots to do besides gambling here. Star Burger is another great place. A little hole in the wall with great food. Try the deep fried pickles.
