Be careful. Besides the usual generic violence and crime. Hoards of clowns are descending on the city.

Now you have to worry about cream pie attacks. Your guns may be locked up, but get a Seltzer bottle to repel the clowns.

Funny. I am going there the beginning of June. I feel the same way. If you are still there, let's get together.

It's not that bad. I visited there maybe 5yrs ago and found it to SEEM safer than I thought it would be. But then again, I didn't stay out much after midnight.

You are in Chicago... with a firearm locked in your trunk?
What are you? Daft?
Sure, you're not likely to get picked up... But what would you do with your gun in the trunk? There is NO law that allows yo to be in possession of a handgun (or any other gun) within the city limits of Chicago... or even within the State of Illinois itself... if that city or state is your destination... and it IS your destination if you are going to visit friends...
What ARE you thinking?
If someone attacked you and if you were able to get to your gun in the trunk... and load it and load the magazine before you were killed, and you used the weapon to save yourself... I can almost guarantee you you would do as much time as a criminal.
Dumbest thing I ever heard. Move it to off topic... it's gotta be a joke... nobody is that foolish.

I was staying in westmont. On my way out I went to city to buy food to bring home to Kentucky. It is legal to transport firearms locked in your trunk. I hope that was sarcasm.

I'm pretty sure I didn't break any laws, but I will take the self righteous condescending comments under advisement.

Illinois and New York do not agree with you. They have a very strict view of the law. There have been cases where any stop including for gas with a gun stored in the trunk has been deemed illegal. I believe a US Representative offered a bill that would stop New York and Illinois from doing this.
Federal firearms transportation law says I can.

See archer's response. Once you stopped in Westmont, you were no longer covered because it was your destination. You were not traveling through. The law covers you traveling through a state. There have been cases where New York deemed that stopping for gas would end your coverage under the federal law.
I opened up this thread to see what was going on in Chicago. I've read through the whole thing and still don't get the point of it. Moving along..............
