Exclamation Notice for Elmore County, Alabama Concealed Carriers

I checked my CCL the other day and realized that it was expired! Normally, Elmore County sends out a renewal notice by mail, but mine never arrived.

I went to the Sheriff's office this morning and the deputy there told me that their new computer system does not send out renewal notices anymore. She even told me that it has caused a big problem because people (like me) rely on the notice in the mail and forget to check if their permit is valid or not.

She told me that just because you didn't get a notice is no excuse for carrying with an expired permit (I agree).

That said, if you're from Elmore County, Alabama, check your permit's date and mark your calander!

I would recommend that for people in places other than Elmore Co. My SD said they "try" to send out notices but who knows in five years? We all know who takes the blame if we're caught with an expired license.

Ultimately it is the carriers responsibility to know when their permit is going to expire. It's nice if the issuing authority sends a reminder, but that is all it is, a nicety.

That's been true for Madison County as well for some time.

The good news is that a copy of the permit/license plus a check $10 gets my renewed P/L in about a week or less, so I'm good for another year.

Baldwin County, AL doesn't send notices either. I can renew by mail or at the sheriff's office.
