Decided not to stay overnight, 700 mile round trip. I don't want to leave my unattended for too long with the drug dealers across the street. Grabbing a gyros in Greektown on my way out.
Don't forget the little yellow sign for your back window that says "I am a legal firearms owner who has a usless locked weapon in this car" - Now that I think of it, I was making a joke, but you might want to check the Chi-Town laws to make sure you actually don't need one of those.
Stay Safe - glad the permit works for most of the way.
I'm good in Chicago, only there for an hour. Just stopping for some Greek food.
Times like those it's a good time to have a gun that's easily reassembled from being "broken down in a nunfuntioning state". Sig classic series or Glock comes to mind... According to their guidelines you can have it accessible, in a case, unloaded, but broken down... so that means to me the case is in the passenger seat with the unloaded gun in it with the slide off. You see trouble ahead and you have a funtioning firearm in under 5 seconds.
Should be out of Il within an hour.
