    Traveling to Chicago area today!

I will be travelling through Chicago today to Huntley Il to drop off my son with his mother for the summer. I will be legally transporting my firearm per these guidelines.

    http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/1-154.pdf

Municipal Ordinances Relating To Firearms Public Act 92-0238

Non-residents must be legally eligible to possess
or acquire firearms and ammunition in their state of
residence. It is recommended that in order to be in
compliance with all statutes, non-residents transport
    all firearms:
    1. Unloaded, and
    2. Enclosed in a case, and
    3. Not immediately accessible or broken down in a
    nonfunctioning state.

Quick trip overnight returning tomorrow. Exercising my rights avoiding towns with ordinances!

Decided not to stay overnight, 700 mile round trip. I don't want to leave my unattended for too long with the drug dealers across the street. Grabbing a gyros in Greektown on my way out.

Don't forget the little yellow sign for your back window that says "I am a legal firearms owner who has a usless locked weapon in this car" - Now that I think of it, I was making a joke, but you might want to check the Chi-Town laws to make sure you actually don't need one of those.

Stay Safe - glad the permit works for most of the way.

Times like those it's a good time to have a gun that's easily reassembled from being "broken down in a nunfuntioning state". Sig classic series or Glock comes to mind... According to their guidelines you can have it accessible, in a case, unloaded, but broken down... so that means to me the case is in the passenger seat with the unloaded gun in it with the slide off. You see trouble ahead and you have a funtioning firearm in under 5 seconds.

Yes you are correct. Il Supreme Court says glove compartment and center console qualifies but I don't recommend it. My G19 is in my trunk unloaded!
