Anyone know if this variant is available yet? Google is a bit nebulous regarding it.

Are you refering to the XDm 45, or the XDS 45?
I believe both are in store now, if you can find one (XDs 45)?
Springfield XD-S .45 is a single stack
SA has announced it would be producing a .40 and 9mm versions.. don't know when.
How would a single stack XDM differ from a XDS?
Barrel length/overall length/sight radius?
Overall height?
Weight?
At any rate, I've become *extremely* interested in the XDS .45, but would like to fire one before making the decision to purchase/not purchase. On YouTube CandRreviews has a couple of reviews (both benchtop and a couple of range reviews comparing the XDS to the Kimber UltraCarry II, and some other 9 mm, if I recall correctly).
I really like the beavertail safety as I have concerns about accidental discharge during reholstering. I know the probability is low, especially if you are careful, but concealed carry, IMHO, is all about preparing for low probability incidents. With the beavertail safety, all you have to do is make sure that you do not have this depressed during reholster. By contrast to the beavertail safety, which would require pressure in the opposite direction than the direction the gun is moving during reholster, the trigger 'safety' on my current carry pistol (Walther PPQ) could easily be depressed by a fold of clothing, and since the trigger pull is pretty light, the risk of an AD, though unlikely, is further from zero than would be the case with a beavertail safety.
Of course, the beavertail safety will be depressed if one pulls the trigger intentionally, and there is no thumb safety to worry about fumbling with...
IMHO, this offers the perfect solution!
The only thing better could potentially be a 9mm XDs... but I suspect that these will be hard to keep in stock when they finally come out...
They are on the shelves, going with a friend tomorrow to pick his up.

So far very limited numbers and then only released to large well established dealers.
Thanks everyone. Hoping we get some soon in my neck of the woods.
I got mine two weeks ago and love it. It's so small but almost no kick!
Yeah, my 3.8 needs a skinny little brother to kick around.
was never a huge fan of the XD line but something about this XDs is very appealing..
I purchased an xds 2 weeks ago and it's a great choice for ccw. Shot ~200 rounds thru it without any problems. Shot to point of aim to 10 yards, as far as I shot. Replaces my cw40 for cow. I did order the 7 rd magazine.
Ill have my xds tomorrow, can't wait! I already have the first batch of holsters started for the xds.
