He's a good guy, one of those larger than charactors. Happened to walk up on him at a GSSF match back in Feb. He was talking with everyone and pasting targets waiting for his time to shoot. When it was his time to shoot though, everyone went quite and watched him, sort of like the old EF Hutton commercials.

I watched the video and learned some new things. For instance, I've heard him reference the shod foot before in terms of disparity of force, but never heard it explained in detail with regards to being on the ground and how a fist (or foot) from above can then become a deadly weapon because of the greater potential for damage when stuck against an immobilized target.

When it comes to discussing the legalities of firearms ownership and self-defense, he is one of the best sources. He is also one of the first firearms instructors around the nation and is also an expert witness as well as an author and contributing editor. I have some of his books and they are great information.

Massad Ayoob may not be 100% correct in every area of self defense and you may disagree with him on some level. But, I have learned more in the area of self defense by this man than any other "expert". I can say every time I read one of his books or hear him speak I have learned something new or recall a forgotten point. I believe he is worth the time taken to learn.

There are a number of articles by Mr. Ayoob in Backwoods magazine. Their index of articles, listed by author is at: Articles by author | author index | homesteading
Good reading. I agree that he's a good source of important information, not the only source, but a good one.
The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.

I had the pleasure of chating with Mas at the NRA convention in St. Louis this year. He is as impressive in person as in the media.

If so, it was likely at our Armed Citizens Network booth, where he was for most of the show. Glad you stopped by!

Mass is a true authority. He's also on a lot of the self-defense/gun shows. I knew him from T.V. before I ever realized who he is, etc.
Like Smitty said earlier, the equipment might become dated but his mind-set continues to hold true.

Yes it was. I spoke with both Mas and Marty, and have subsequently joined the Network.

Thought I would jump in here. Massad is a dynamic speaker who has attended various (WSLEFIA) training seminars here in WA State through the years. As others have said, he isn't the only authority but a good source nevertheless. He's also a good guy to have on your side in court should the need arise.
A note to the trainers: Document, document, document.
Stay safe out there.

My CHL class instructor had us watch some old VHS vids of Mr. Ayoob disseminating outstanding information while simultaneously being one seriously BAMF.

Great. Glad to have you as a member. I was in the booth all weekend, too. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet.

Would love to have him over for thanksgiving dinner and pick his brain.
I'm teaching a beginners defensive carry course and I'm making one of his books required reading.
I agree with Yankeejib. I think everyone who wants to carry a gun, in any state, should be required to take a class and do some reading on their own. Then take, and pass, some tests.

So you don't believe in inalienable rights but rather government granted privilege. What if I suggested only retired LE Firearms Instructors should be allowed to teach firearms Instruction?
