Now if you just have to buy a new gun well I'd go with a Kel-Tec P3AT

So much depends on your size ,how you dress.
The real compact 25 autos like the Phoenix raven fit in any pocket almost . Not my first choice but I do own one. Lube it right it shoots first time every time.
The Ruger LCP is any out stand small fire arm. But you need a fair size pocket.
Any of the shielded hammer 38's snub's may work and nothing wrong with a .38 IMO.
Up close I would not want the 25 auto emptied in my mid section.
    Compare sizes.

Airweight J frame is always a good choice. I carry a Colt Agent revolver loaded with Federal 125 grain Nyclads. It's the same weight as the
j frames, holds one more round and is only 1/10 inch wider through the cylinder.

My vote is the Ruger LCP. I always have it loaded with Hornady CD ammo.

I have a taurus ultralite .38 - Great gun, I'd just like to have more than one option far as pocket carry.

    Thanks for the responses!

I would go to your LGS and hold one, for being so small it's very comfortable. Every LCP and LCP magazine comes with an extension that you can put on (as seen in bandrich's picture) which makes it even more comfortable.

Bandrich: is that the factory extension or did you buy the larger one separately? Looks a bit bigger but I'm not sure if it's because of the grip you put on or not.

I had a Sig p238. It was a solid pistol with top notch fit and finish as good as everyone says. Really a beautiful gun. I sold it. It was just a few ounces too heavy and a maybe a half inch too big for me to consider it a comfortable in the pocket carry. Stellar quality, shoot where you point in pistol. But, in the end, I wanted something even lighter and slightly smaller for an all day, pocket it and forget it gun and the P238 was great for a lot of reasons but not for me in the small, light, all day pocket category. I see how some might have one and think I am crazy. For many, it might be perfect size and weight. Just not for me. I have yet to replace it, but when I find that special, slightly lighter, slightly smaller pistol, I will know it. I am intrigued by the Kahr P380. Even willing to consider something like the Seecamp 32, as I am not a caliber nazi. While the Kel-Tec 32 and 3At both might fit the size and weight criteria, I just have no interest in a Kel-Tec.....for no rational reason.

I want the same build quality as the P238 in a smaller size.

IMHO best thing you can do is go to a local store with a diverse selection, and one that will let you put a potential pistol in your pocket in clothes you normally wear. Having said that, I owned and loved a Sig P238, but all my other pistols are 9mm's, so I switched to a Kahr PM9 and have not looked back!

LCP or J frame. Best choices available.
