    NRA personal protection class

A semi-local club is giving this course in october. It's an 8 hour course that covers using your pistol to defend your home, and the legal ramifications(NY state specific). It also has some range time on a diferent day. It's run by an NRA instructor and a lawyer.
It sounds good, but it's $110,that's alot of ammo......whould you take the class?
The shooting part is not really what I need(although it would be fun)But the legal stuff does interest me.
I'm leaning towards taking it,but like I said I could just spend the money on ammo.....WWYD?

This the class I needed to take to get my carry permit in MI, so I had to take it. I paid $100. I did learn some HD techniques that I didn't know before and it also reinstated the basics and refreshed my memory. I wouldn't hesitate to take it. NRA training is among the best and I would encourage you to take it.

I sure wish it was offered for my area, I'd love to take it!

I recently took this class as a requirement to get my CCW. It teaches you the law, specific to your state, It teaches you different ways of handling a handgun and defensive tactics. This class really opened my eyes to real personal defense scenarios, and I feel it is a must for everyone who wants to keep a gun solely for personal protection in the home. TAKE THE CLASS, IT WILL BE WELL WORTH IT!!!

I teach it here in MN and as with all NRA courses I think it is excellent. (Not just saying that because I am an instructor, I became an instructor because I was impressed with it as a student.) I don't think you can go wrong.

    Ditto - another instructor here.

It does, almost inevitably cover some stuff not everyone might feel they need but - it is quite well rounded and IMO the range time is still useful even if you have done quite a bit of shooting. It in a sense ''formalizes'' things. PLus legal stuff of course.

That price seems quite high - the team I tought with kept costs way down but - that did mean we all did the teaching gratis - and I have yet to recoup much of my investment in getting certified. That is no biggie tho as it is satisfying to bring folks on.

We only gave that course to folks who had done basic pistol, unless they could well show some significant prior experience.

Do take it if the chance is there.

Yes, well if the money is there, do it.

I have taught the course many times, and trained instructors to teach it too.

The new course will be in the field within a year. This is the Personal Protection Outside the Home course.

Good course, especially when an outside lecturer comes in (usually LEO or attorney), but the fee does seem to be to the high side from my experience.

A "Personal Protection Outside the Home" course is, as I understand it, now being launched by NRA. I'm not familiar with the content, but understand there is some focus on concealed carry.

I teach both the Personal Protection Class and the class required by the A.S.P to get a permit.

The Personal Protection class is an exellent class for someone that is interested in protecting themselves but never gave it much thought and really dont know much about it. Its a very good class for women and new shooters that are just starting out.

I can and do reccomend it.

another instructor here. $110 is not out of the realm of the average class cost. It is a requirement here in Michigan for CCW, although I think the new NRA personal protection OUTSIDE the home will eventually take over that role. It is a very good class, and would be surprised if you feel you didn't get your monies worth.
