Oregon CHL Application at Sheriff Dept next week - Questions
I'll be heading in to the family place in eastern Oregon for the rodeo next week. I don't spend a lot of time there but visit a couple of weekends a year. Other times, I spend a lot of time driving up and down US 5 on the western end of the state.
I am going to show up in person and apply for an Oregon CHL to round out my western states ability to carry concealed.
I have no issues that would preclude me on the background check or documented training (Military, NRA.. Other).
Couple of questions for people familiar with OR / Local Sheriff processing in OR (and I have researched the sites - links below):
- What documentation do I need beyond this: Military DD-214 showing weapons schools and many expert rifle/pistol, NRA and other training Certs (Pistol and Revolver), State DL, Federal ID, other CCW from other states (thought not recognized by OR).
- I've read that there are instances where good cause/or a cause may be needed (for out of state) even though OR is a Shall Issue State - is this really an issue, or at the descretion of each Sheriff's Dept?

Any other advice is welcome.
Again, I'm asking for the 'What they don't tell you on the OR website' kind of advice. Any 'Got Yas' to look out for?
Thank you in advance.

Just to add for future readers. In Washington County at least, you have to provide proof of citizenship, ie. birth certificate. You only have to do it once. After that you can renew with providing it again. Not sure if its like that in other counties.
