    Qualification requirements

Does anyone know at what distances and how much ammunition you need to qualify for the Texas CHL? My wife is about to renew in January. Any help would be a great help. Thanks, Mike

Not trying to be smart but it sounds like she has qualified before, so take whatever she took last time.

Go to these links, they should tell you everything you need to know...

As for specifics, I believe the distances were approx. 10 ft -25 yds and I needed 100 rds of ammo, though that can vary from what I've heard from other people. Your instructor (if you already have a location in mind) should be able to give you the details.

    Thanks

Thanks rachilders. You're post was a lot more helpful than the other post! Yeah she did qualify, that wasn't the question. Going to take her to the range this weekend so she can shoot another 250.

I just qualified in May. You have 20 shots at 3 yards, 20 shots at 7 yards and 10 shots at, I think, 15 yards although it might be 10 yards for a total of 50 shots. My instructor encouraged us to take 100 rounds with us assuming we would want to practice beforehand.

The target is divided into three scoring areas: 3pts, 4pts, and 5pts. Its a standard silhouette target. you must score a minimum of 175 out of a possible 250 to qualify for your CHL. Also, if you qualify with a semi-auto, than you can carry both semis and revolvers. If you qualify with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver.

I kind of understand the sentiment, but I still think we need to remember that despite the controls being put upon it, carrying is a Right, not a "privilege," and the individual States are acting against the Constitution when they place such "controls" on our fundamental right to "keep and bare arms."

Our right to do so was not given to us by the Constitution, it exist outside of it's framework. The document only serves to guarantee it's preservation.

It is a matter of personal responsibility to obtain whatever training is needed to exercise that right safely and properly, just as it is to educate one's self in order to cast a vote "safely and properly."

When our individual States "allow" us to exercise our rights by licensing them as a Privileged, they are not giving us anything, they are only partially returning what was so wrongfully taken from us in the first place.

It is sad that the very concept of "personal responsibility" has been lost in this otherwise great country of ours.

Just some radical thoughts over a second cup of coffee. . .

Political Correctness has now "evolved" into Political Cowardice.
